Delhi Blast: Hamood Siddiqui, Brother Of Al Falah University Director, Arrested As Probe Deepens

The investigation into the Al Falah Investment Company scam and its suspected links to a wider terror network has intensified with the arrest of Hamood Siddiqui, brother of Al Falah University director Jawaad Ahmed Siddiqui. Mhow Police detained Hamood in Hyderabad and have brought him in for questioning as part of an ongoing probe that now spans multiple states.

Hamood's arrest is seen as a significant breakthrough, as investigators believe he holds crucial information regarding the decades-old investment scam and the alleged connections between the university and individuals involved in recent terror activities.

The name of Jawaad Ahmed Siddiqui resurfaced prominently after the 11 November Delhi blast near Red Fort, which killed 13 people and injured 21. During the investigation, agencies discovered that Jawaad, who had reportedly fled years ago, founded Al Falah Investment Company nearly 25 years earlier, allegedly absconding with crores of rupees invested by local residents.

With the Delhi blast case bringing renewed scrutiny to Siddiqui and his associates, the police reopened the financial fraud investigation. Hamood Siddiqui is now being interrogated to determine whether the long-standing scam is linked in any way to the emerging terror-related findings.

Last week, the Special Task Force (STF) conducted a detailed inspection of Al-Falah University, examining its premises and questioning staff as part of the wider terror investigation. Authorities are attempting to map possible links between the university and suspects connected to the blast.

The university has become a central point of interest, with investigators assessing whether institutional lapses or deliberate complicity enabled the suspects to operate under its cover.

The Delhi Police Crime Branch has registered two separate FIRs against Al-Falah University under charges of forgery and cheating. The action followed serious concerns raised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) over the university's alleged submission of false accreditation documents.

Officials confirmed that both regulatory bodies flagged “major irregularities" during their review of the university's functioning, particularly at a time when it is under the scanner for its alleged role in harbouring individuals linked to a “white collar" terror module reportedly supported by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.

The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has already revoked the university's membership due to its alleged connections with the module.

The scrutiny intensified after Jammu and Kashmir Police recovered nearly 3,000 kg of explosives hidden in two Faridabad residences owned by Dr Muzammil Shakeel, a doctor linked to the university.

Another staff member, Dr Shaheen Shahid, was arrested when a rifle and live cartridges were found in her vehicle.

Investigators also identified Dr Umar Un Navi, an assistant doctor at the university, as the driver of the vehicle that exploded near Red Fort, causing mass casualties.

In addition, the Delhi Police Special Cell has filed an FIR under criminal conspiracy sections to investigate the wider terror plot, while the initial UAPA case has been transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for a detailed probe.
