Gujarat Officer Who Murdered Wife, Kids Was In Extra-Marital Relationship With Colleague
The forest officer from Gujarat, who was arrested for allegedly killing his wife and two children, was in an extra-marital relationship with a female colleague for nearly four years, investigation has revealed.
The woman has been questioned as part of the probe, though her involvement in the crime has not been established yet, according to a report in NDTV.
The accused, identified as Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Shailesh Khambhla (39), was arrested after the bodies of his wife and kids were recovered from a pit behind his residence in Bhavnagar.
Khambhla had recently been posted to Bhavnagar, while his wife Nayana, 40, and their children — 13-year-old Pritha and 9-year-old Bhavya — continued living in Surat. The family had travelled to Bhavnagar for a brief holiday but soon went missing, prompting alarm among relatives.
On November 5, Khambhla lodged a complaint, claiming his security guard saw his family leave in an auto-rickshaw while he was away. The guard contradicted the statement, and Khambhla's unusual behaviour and apparent indifference during questioning raise suspicion.
Investigators examined his call history and learned that Khambhla had instructed a junior staffer, Girish Vania, to dig two pits behind his home on November 2 under the pretext of disposing of waste. Four days later, Vania was told to arrange a dumper truck to refill the pits, with Khambhla claiming a nilgai had fallen in and needed to be covered.

On November 16, police unearthed the bodies of Nayana and the two children from the same pits. Khambhla was taken into custody soon after.
During interrogation, he confessed, admitting the murders were carefully plotted. He had smothered his wife and children with a pillow and then used his wife's phone to send himself a misleading message claiming she had left to live with someone else before switching the device to airplane mode. Investigators believe ongoing marital tensions were the primary motive.
