Tamil Nadu Woman Arrested For Killing Daughter-In-Law After Son Names Her As Suspect
A woman was arrested in Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi district for allegedly murdering her daughter-in-law and burying the body near a riverbank after luring her out of the house under the pretext of visiting a temple.
Police said the victim, Nandini, originally from Bengaluru, had married Raja of Valaiyampattu village eight years ago. The couple had two children. Raja died five years ago, after which Nandini continued to live in the village with the children. During this period, she became acquainted with Maria Rosario, who runs a physiotherapy centre in Viriyur. Despite objections from Rosario's mother, Christopher Mary, the two married and later had a son.
Police said Mary had been upset that her son had married a widow and frequently quarrelled with Nandini. Recently, Mary is said to have suggested that the two women visit a temple to perform rituals to bring peace to the family.
On December 29, Mary took Nandini out of the house, telling the family they were going to the temple. When only Mary returned, Rosario grew suspicious after she refused to explain his wife's absence. He later lodged a missing complaint with the Sankarapuram police, naming his mother as a suspect.

Police questioned Mary, who initially claimed that Nandini had fled on the way. However, officers said she confessed during sustained inquiry, admitting that she had taken Nandini to a riverbank and killed her with the help of a friend, identified as Emily. The body was later recovered from the spot and sent for post-mortem examination.
Both Mary and Emily have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
