Fourth BLO death in Gujarat sparks outcry
The Opposition Congress has raised questions over the deaths of BLOs. Congress chief spokesperson Manish Doshi told ET that the Election Commission needs to step in immediately to address the situation. "There is immense pressure on BLOs and they are rarely in a position to handle this," Doshi said.
GANDHINAGAR: Dinesh Raval, a school teacher, died in the wee hours of Friday at his home in Sudasana village of Gujarat's Mehsana district from a heart attack. Raval (50) was a booth level officer (BLO) for the ongoing Special Intensive Review (SIR) of the electoral rolls. Raval is the fourth BLO, who has died of a heart attack in Gujarat since the commencement of the SIR process.
Several BLOs have been hospitalised across Ahmedabad and Jamnagar after they collapsed during the SIR.
The Opposition Congress has raised questions over the deaths of BLOs. Congress chief spokesperson Manish Doshi told ET that the Election Commission needs to step in immediately to address the situation. "There is immense pressure on BLOs and they are rarely in a position to handle this," Doshi said.
"The state government is busy with Chintan Shibir and only offering lip service which is no good when it comes to addressing the hardships being faced by BLOs.
