Dr. Umar, working as a doctor at Al Falah Medical College in Faridabad, is believed to have carried out the high-intensity explosion, killing at least eight people and injuring several others, in a state of panic following the arrest of his associates hours earlier. Delhi Police have detained his mother and brothers for questioning.

Surveillance cameras provided a crucial timeline and indicated that the attack, although hastily carried out, was not spontaneous.
The Wait: The i20 car laden with explosives was found parked near the Sunehri Masjid or Golden Mosque, which is situated near the Red Fort, for close to three hours. The car entered the parking area at 3:19 PM and exited at 6:48 PM.
The Suspect's Image: A CCTV grab taken just before the 6:52 PM blast clearly shows the suspect driving. While the driver's face is initially visible, the subsequent footage shows a masked man behind the wheel whom the investigators have identified as Dr. Umar.
Route Scrutiny: Investigators are scrutinizing over 100 CCTV footage clips, including those of toll plazas, to piece together the complete route the vehicle traveled after it entered the city from the Badarpur border.
The attack now has strong links with a network of highly educated professionals, and evidence has shown that high-grade explosives have been used.
Faridabad Connection: Dr. Umar is a close associate of Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather, a former senior resident doctor from GMC Anantnag, who was arrested last week. The subsequent raid led to the arrest of another doctor Muzamil Shakeel and seizure of a massive 2,900 kg of IED making material in Faridabad.
ANFO Used: Initial investigations have confirmed that Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil was used in the high-intensity explosion. The forensic report, expected shortly, will confirm the exact nature of the material. Police suspect Shakeel's ability to procure such a large quantity was due to a sleeper cell operating in Faridabad.
UAPA Invoked: Delhi Police, reflecting the severity of the plot, have invoked the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) (Sections 16 and 18), along with the Explosive Substances Act and charges of murder and attempt to murder.
The police are working hard to unwind the complicated, multi-layered ownership trail of the i20 car (HR 26 7624) used in the blast.
The Chain: The car, which belonged to Mohammad Salman (now detained), was sold to Nadeem, then a dealer (Royal Car Zone), then to Aamir, and subsequently to Tariq (also detained), and finally came into the possession of Dr. Umar. Sham
Documents: The car's registration certificate remains officially in Salman's name, indicating fake documents were used for the several purchases and sales, deliberately obscuring the final owner's identity.
DNA Confirmation: Forensic teams are undertaking DNA tests on the bodily remains recovered from the debris to confirm beyond doubt that the remains of the deceased suspect were those of Dr. Umar Mohammad. The deafening explosion, which was heard up to 2 km away, has triggered a high alert across the capital.
Six out of the eight bodies recovered are unidentified and are being subjected to further DNA and post-mortem examination. The Chandni Chowk market will remain shut today as a precautionary measure.
