‘Misguided’: Congress MP Defends Delhi Suicide Bomber Umar, BJP Calls Him 'Spin Doctor Of Terror'
Congress MP Imran Masood has triggered a political row with his remarks defending the accused Delhi suicide bomber Dr Umar, calling him a “misguided youth," while also alleging that the government is “deliberately trying to destroy minority institutions of learning" such as Al Falah University.
On Tuesday, a fresh video of Umar surfaced in which he attempted to justify suicide bombing, a justification that, according to police, was not supported by other members of his terror group.
“These are misguided people. The words of these misguided people cannot present the picture of Islam," Masood said.
The BJP quickly responded to the remarks, calling the Congress MP a “spin doctor of terror".
“In a video, Delhi blast mastermind is justifying suicide bombing. On the other hand, like a spin doctor of terror, Congress MP Imran Masood says that these people are misguided youth. An entire ecosystem prioritises ‘vote bank niti' over ‘rashtriya niti'," said BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla.
“Ever since this terrorist attack occurred, it has started defending the terrorists – be it Mehbooba Mufti, Husain Dalwai, Abu Azmi, Imran Masood, Anuma Acharya. It seems that in the name of appeasement, ‘aatanki bachao gang' is active once again," he added.

Thirteen people were killed and several others injured during an explosion near Delhi's Red Fort last week, triggering one of the most serious terror incidents in the Capital in recent years.

The explosion took place close to a crowded stretch leading to the monument. Investigators later pieced together CCTV footage and electronic trails that pointed to a pre-planned attack.
The probe eventually led authorities to Dr Umar-un-Nabi, who they said was directly involved in planting the device. Raids across multiple locations yielded digital material, including videos and documents, which police claim link him to the execution and planning of the blast.
