Fake Nurse? Florida Woman Accused Of Treating Patients Without Medical License
A 29-year-old woman in Florida has been accused of treating thousands of patients without having any formal medical education or license, according to a report by the BBC. The woman, identified as Autumn Bardisa, allegedly treated 4,486 patients between June 2024 and January 2025, while posing as a licensed medical professional.
The Flagler County Sheriff's Office launched a criminal investigation after concerns were raised by Bardisa's superiors at AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway, where she had been employed from July 2023 until January 2025. Her contract was terminated when doubts arose regarding her qualifications and educational background.
Authorities allege that Bardisa submitted false documentation during the hiring process and used a nurse license number belonging to another employee with the same first name, Autumn, who works at a different AdventHealth facility. Investigators say she falsely claimed the license was hers.
When questioned, Bardisa told investigators that the discrepancy could be explained by her recent marriage and subsequent surname change. However, when asked to submit a marriage license as proof, she failed to do so.
“This is one of the most disturbing cases of medical fraud we've ever investigated," Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said in a statement.
The case came to light in January 2025, when Bardisa was being considered for a promotion. A colleague, who reviewed her paperwork, noticed that the nursing assistant license Bardisa used to secure her job had expired. The discovery led to her immediate dismissal and a seven-month-long criminal investigation.
“This woman potentially put thousands of lives at risk by pretending to be someone she was not and violating the trust of patients, their families, AdventHealth and an entire medical community," Sheriff Staly added.

Bardisa was arrested at her home on August 5 while wearing medical scrubs. She has since been charged with seven counts of practicing a health care profession without a license and seven counts of fraudulent use of personal identification information.
She is currently being held at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility on a $70,000 bond (approximately £52,000), awaiting further legal proceedings.
