ECI team to visit West Bengal on October 8-9 for SIR review
An Election Commission team will visit Bengal to review election preparedness. Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti leads this team. They will hold video conferences with district officials on October 8. Discussions will cover voter roll mapping and Booth Level Officer appointments. The ECI also seeks reports on 4,500 complaints regarding BLO recruitment.
Kolkata: A team of the Election Commission of India, led by Deputy Election Commissioner (DEC) Gyanesh Bharti, will visit Bengal to review the preparedness of SIR in Bengal. The team will visit North 24 Parganas, East Medinipur, Bankura and Jhargram. The ECI team will hold a meeting on video conferencing with all the DEOs to discuss SIR preparedness.
District Election Officers, ADM (Election), District OC Election, EROs of these two ACs, All AEROs of these two ACS, all Supervisors of these two ACs, all BLOs of these two ACS, District Election Officer, ADM (Election) District OC Election, all EROS, System Manager & ASM will participate in the meetings. WB-CEO Manoj Kumar Agarwal will also attend these meetings at both the meetings.
Bharti will hold a high-level meeting with all the DEOs through video-conferencing on October 8 “to discuss and review the progress of various pre-revision activities.” WB_CEO's office has asked the DEOs to attend the video conference along with the ADM (Election), SDOs, OC Election, EROS through the district NIC set-up.
Chief Electoral Officer- West Bengal Manoj Agarwal will preside over the VC. Gyanesh Bharti, Sr. DEC, ECI, and Seema Khanna, DG(IT)-ECI and other ECI officials also will remain present. The discussion will be held on Mapping of 2002 E-Roll with 2025 E-Roll, appointment and Training of BLOS, arrangement of printer and A4 size papers for printing of Enumeration Form for SIR; Identifying volunteers to assist BLOS; Arrangement of BLO kit for SIR, Status of disposal of Forms 6,7 and 8 and other issues relating to upcoming SIR, people in the know told ET.
The complaints regarding rationalisation of booths and BLO appointments will also be discussed. The EROS have been asked to attend the meeting from the District Headquarters, sources said
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has sought detailed reports from all District Magistrates across West Bengal regarding the recruitment process of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in their respective districts, after 4,500 complaints.

Bharatiya Janata Party has repeatedly raised concerns on this issue about appointment of Booth Level Officers who are affiliated with the ruling Trinamool Congress.
