Despite a slight improvement, pollution levels remained dangerously high across many parts of the national capital. A thick layer of toxic smog covered the city, sharply reducing visibility and causing major disruption to air travel.
Delhi continued to struggle with dangerous air pollution on Tuesday morning, with the city's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 378 around 8 am, putting it in the “very poor” category, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Flight services at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport were badly affected due to thick fog and very poor visibility. Airport officials on Monday said around 228 flights were cancelled, while five flights were diverted. According to Delhi Airport, the cancelled flights included 131 departures and 97 arrivals. Visibility dropped sharply in the early morning hours, causing major disruption across the airport.
Data from flight-tracking website Flightradar24 showed that incoming flights were delayed by nearly two hours on average, while departing flights faced delays of about 78 minutes. The airport's disruption level was marked as high.
Flights are currently operating under CAT III conditions, which allow aircraft to land in extremely low visibility. However, such conditions often lead to delays and cancellations.
The advisory also warned of heavy fog across northern India, saying that airports in Delhi and nearby regions are facing severe visibility issues. Passengers were again urged to confirm flight updates before starting their journey.
