'Country Has Rejected Congress': PM Modi Hails BMC Polls Win, Slams 'Negative Politics' In Assam
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said recent election results across the country clearly indicate that voters are rejecting the Congress's “negative politics" and increasingly placing their faith in the BJP for governance and development.
Addressing a public gathering in Assam, PM Modi said the public mandate reflects a growing preference for stability, development and cultural pride.
“The voter today wants good governance and development, along with respect for heritage. That is why the BJP has become the first choice of people across the country," he said.
Referring to the recent civic election results, the Prime Minister highlighted the BJP's landmark performance in Maharashtra, particularly in Mumbai.
“Just two days ago, the results of the mayor and councillor elections in major cities of Maharashtra were declared. In Mumbai, one of the world's largest municipal corporations, the people have given a historic mandate to the BJP for the first time," PM Modi said.
Taking a swipe at the Congress, PM Modi said the party has lost ground even in its birthplace.
“There is another clear message from these elections, the country is continuously rejecting the negative politics of the Congress. In the same Mumbai city where the Congress was born, it has now slipped to fourth or fifth position," he remarked.
The Prime Minister also pointed to recent assembly elections, including Bihar, to underline the BJP's expanding footprint. He said the party had secured record seats even after two decades in the state, reflecting sustained public confidence over the past year and a half.
PM Modi was speaking during his visit to Kaziranga in Assam, where he said the state holds a special place for him.
“I got the opportunity to stay overnight in Kaziranga National Park. During the elephant safari, I experienced the beauty of this region very closely. Visiting Assam always gives me unique happiness," he said.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister performed the Bhoomi Pujan for the Rs 6,950-crore Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project and flagged off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains at Kaliabor in Nagaon district.
The 86-km corridor is an environmentally sensitive national highway project that includes a 35-km elevated wildlife corridor passing through Kaziranga National Park, a 21-km bypass stretch, and the widening of 30 km of NH-715 from two to four lanes.
The project is designed to improve connectivity while safeguarding the region's rich biodiversity.
Spanning Nagaon, Karbi Anglong and Golaghat districts, the corridor will significantly enhance access to Upper Assam, including Dibrugarh and Tinsukia.

Officials said the elevated wildlife corridor would ensure uninterrupted animal movement, reduce human-wildlife conflict, improve road safety and cut travel time.
Bypasses at Jakhalabandha and Bokakhat will also be developed to ease traffic congestion, improve urban mobility and enhance the quality of life for local residents.
