Cloudflare down reason: From X to ChatGPT; list of all the apps affected by the outage
Cloudflare faced a global network problem on Tuesday, causing outages across several major websites and apps. Users trying to access platforms such as X, ChatGPT, League of Legends and Letterboxd saw error messages linked to Cloudflare's disruption.
Cloudflare, Internet infrastructure provider, was experiencing issues with its global network on Tuesday, disrupting service for many websites and apps. Visitors to websites such as X, formerly known as Twitter, ChatGPT, online game League of Legends and film reviewing site Letterboxd saw an error message that indicated that Cloudflare problems meant that the page could not show.
The company issued a statement saying, “Cloudflare is aware of, and investigating an issue which potentially impacts multiple customers. We are working to understand the full impact and mitigate this problem.”
In an update about 20 minutes later, it said disruptions had begun to ease: “We are seeing services recover, but customers may continue to observe higher-than-normal error rates as we continue remediation efforts.”

Cloudfare outage reason
A Cloudflare spokesperson told Business Insider that the company saw "unusual traffic" to one of its services at 6:20 a.m. ET (3:50 p.m. IST). "We do not yet know the cause of the spike in unusual traffic," the spokesperson said. "We are all hands on deck to make sure all traffic is served without errors. After that, we will turn our attention to investigating the cause of the unusual spike in traffic."Cloudflare provides tools to help websites fight off cyberattacks and load content efficiently.
The outage comes nearly a month after Amazon Web Services experienced problems with its service, disrupting a wide range of online services for hours.

Couldflare was described as “the biggest company you've never heard of” by Alan Woodward, professor at the Surrey Centre for Cyber Security. The company says it provides services to “protect your websites, apps, APIs, and AI workloads while accelerating performance”.Woodward described it as a “gatekeeper” and said its roles include monitoring traffic to sites to defend them against distributed denial of service attacks when malicious actors try to overwhelm sites with requests. It also checks users are human.
Has this happened before?
Cloudflare's system has gone down — multiple times — before. In July 2019, a bug in its software caused one part of its network to suck up computing resources from the rest of the company, leading thousands of websites around the world that rely on Cloudflare to go offline for as long as 30 minutes. During that outage, services including the blogging platform Medium, the video game chat provider Discord, Shopify Inc., music service SoundCloud Ltd., Bitcoin trading platform Coinbase Inc. and online storage site Dropbox Inc. were affected.In June 2022, Cloudflare suffered an outage that affected traffic in 19 of its data centers handling a significant proportion of its global traffic, also essentially shutting down several major websites and services. The incident lasted for about an hour and a half.
Cloudflare shares were down 4% in premarket trading.
