Bihar Elections 2025 Phase 2: Nearly 4 crore voters to decide fate of 1,300 candidates, key seats and voting details here
Bihar heads into its second and final assembly poll phase today, with 3.7 crore voters deciding the fate of 1,302 candidates across 122 constituencies. Security is heightened as prominent ministers and key allies face crucial tests in districts bordering Nepal, including the Seemanchal region.
About 3.7 crore voters will decide the fate of 1,302 candidates, including several ministers from the Nitish Kumar government, as Bihar goes to the second and final phase of assembly polls on Tuesday. Voting will be held in 122 constituencies spread across districts such as West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, and Kishanganj — many of which share borders with Nepal.
Bihar Elections: Security tightened across Bihar
Officials said security arrangements have been strengthened with more than 4 lakh personnel deployed for election duties. Most districts voting in this phase fall under the Seemanchal region, which has a high concentration of Muslim voters. The area is crucial for both the INDIA bloc, which relies on minority support, and the ruling NDA, which accuses the opposition of “protecting infiltrators”.Bihar Elections 2025 Phase 2 key candidates
Among the prominent contestants is Bijendra Prasad Yadav, senior JD(U) leader and cabinet minister, seeking to retain his Supaul seat for an eighth straight term. His colleague Prem Kumar of the BJP is contesting from Gaya Town, which he has represented continuously since 1990.Other ministers in the fray include BJP's Renu Devi (Bettiah) and Neeraj Kumar Singh “Bablu” (Chhatapur), along with JD(U)'s Leshi Singh (Dhamdaha), Sheela Mandal (Phulparas), and Zama Khan (Chainpur).
Former deputy chief minister Tarkishore Prasad is also contesting from Katihar, aiming for a fifth consecutive win.

Minor allies face key test
This phase is also a crucial test for smaller NDA partners — Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) led by Jitan Ram Manjhi and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) headed by Upendra Kushwaha. Both parties are contesting six seats each.All six HAM seats go to polls in this phase, including Imamganj, Barachatti, Tikari, and Sikandra — where the party's sitting MLAs are contesting again. Manjhi earlier held the Imamganj seat before being elected to the Lok Sabha from Gaya. His daughter-in-law Dipa won the seat in the subsequent bypoll, while her mother Jyoti Devi currently represents Barachatti.
The RLM, a relatively new party with no legislative presence, has fielded Upendra Kushwaha's wife Snehlata from Sasaram and his aide Madhaw Anand from Madhubani.

Congress and turncoats in the spotlight
State Congress president Rajesh Kumar is contesting from Kutumba, a reserved seat, seeking re-election for a second term.The list of turncoats is long in this phase. Mohania MLA Sangita Kumari, who won as an RJD candidate in 2020, is now contesting on a BJP ticket. Vibha Devi, MLA from Nawada, has joined the JD(U) after quitting the opposition.
Murari Gautam, once a Congress minister in the Mahagathbandhan government, is now contesting from Chenari on a Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) ticket after crossing over to the NDA.
Another closely watched candidate is Chanakya Prakash Ranjan, son of a JD(U) MP from Banka, who joined the RJD ahead of the polls and is contesting from Belhar.
Bihar Elections 2025 Phase 2: Voting details and demographics
Polling will be conducted at 45,399 stations, including 40,073 in rural areas. More than half of the electorate — about 2.28 crore voters — are aged between 30 and 60 years, while around 7.69 lakh are first-time voters aged 18-19. Women account for 1.75 crore of the total voters.Hisua in Nawada district has the largest electorate with 3.67 lakh voters. Lauria, Chanpatia, Raxaul, Triveniganj, Sugauli, and Banmakhi each have 22 candidates, the highest in this phase.
