Battle for Bihar spills into NCR as NDA’s ‘sushasan’ meets INDIA bloc’s ‘naukri’ pitch for migrant votes

Bihar's upcoming assembly elections are extending to industrial belts and market lanes in Gurgaon and Faridabad. Nearly two lakh migrant workers from Bihar are now central to the high-stakes campaign. The NDA is pushing its good governance narrative, while the INDIA bloc is promising jobs. Migrant voices are shaping the political pitch as parties reach out to these voters.
As Bihar inches closer to assembly elections, the political contest has extended far beyond the state's borders — into the industrial belts, market lanes, and rental quarters of Gurgaon and Faridabad, reported
Nearly two lakh migrant workers from Bihar have become the unlikely pivot of a high-stakes campaign, with the NDA pushing its “sushasan” (good governance) narrative and the INDIA bloc promising “naukri” (jobs) to win hearts before ballots are cast.
Migrant voices shape the political pitch
For the migrant community, the campaign is personal — a reflection of both economic struggle and emotional distance.
“It feels like Bihar is still stuck in the 70s,” Madhav Singh, a worker from Manesar who votes in Supaul told . “Law and order has improved, but health, education, and infrastructure remain neglected.”
For many like Neerja Gupta from Saharsa, who sells vegetables in Gurgaon, migration is a painful necessity. “We face humiliation in other states. I dream of a Bihar where people don't have to leave home for education or jobs,” she said. Her sentiment forms the crux of the INDIA bloc's appeal, fronted by Tejashwi Yadav's job promise.
BJP banks on ‘sushasan', Congress on change
Both BJP and Congress have mobilised teams to court the migrant electorate, mapping voters' constituencies and concerns. The BJP's message revolves around continuity and stability — highlighting “good governance” under Modi and recalling the “jungle raj” era.
“We have reached out to over one lakh registered Bihari voters,” Haryana BJP chief Mohan Lal Badauli told the news outlet, adding that several have pledged to back NDA candidates when they return home to vote.
The BJP's strategy is twofold — to tout the Centre's development model and promise to replicate it in Bihar. Senior leaders including Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar and MLAs from Haryana have been assigned constituencies in Bihar to campaign. Gurgaon MLA Mukesh Sharma, for instance, will canvass in Patna's Maner constituency, detailing Haryana's growth story as a blueprint for Bihar's future.
Congress, meanwhile, is adopting a door-to-door approach led by workers with Bihari roots.
“We are focusing on unemployment, lack of industry, and the NDA government's failure to stem migration,” Pankaj Dabar, Gurgaon district Congress president said, while speaking with . The INDIA bloc's campaign aims to tap into the frustration of young migrants disillusioned with slow progress at home.
A vote away from home
For many workers in NCR, the political fight is a reminder of their unbroken connection with Bihar.
Pankaj Mishra, a software engineer from Madhubani, said, “Even as other states have transformed, Bihar lags behind. That's what this election should change.”
Vinay Kumar, a driver from Aurangabad, told has already applied for leave to vote, while others like Saharsa native Sanjay Kumar Jha say they've grown indifferent. “No one came to meet us. Promises are made every time, but nothing changes,” he said.
The outreach extends beyond Haryana — Congress teams in Ghaziabad and Delhi are tracking Bihari clusters to keep the dialogue going. Meanwhile, student volunteers from Delhi University are campaigning for candidates like CPIML's Divya Gautam in Digha and even helping labourers return home to vote.
As the campaign intensifies, Bihar's migrant workers — long symbols of the state's economic flight — now find themselves courted as key players in shaping its political future.Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
