AMMK's Lone MLA S Kamaraj Faces Disqualification For Extending Support To Vijay-Led TVK Govt
AMMK chief TTV Dhinakaran on Sunday said his party’s lone MLA, S Kamaraj, would face disqualification for supporting Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s TVK government in Tamil Nadu during a crucial floor test on May 13.
AMMK, which was part of the AIADMK and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), contested 11 Assembly seats in the Tamil Nadu elections and won only the Mannargudi constituency.
However, actor-turned-politician Vijay on Wednesday comfortably won the floor test in the Tamil Nadu Assembly with 144 votes in favour. An additional boost came from AMMK MLA S Kamaraj, who supported the TVK government despite facing expulsion from his party afterwards.

After Kamaraj’s support for the TVK, Dhinakaran said, “I have now removed Kamaraj from the party. Let him go and join the other side (TVK) and become a minister if they offer him the post. Then we shall see what the next step is."
Dhinakaram also made it clear that he would push for Kamaraj’s disqualification. “He thinks we cannot take action because he is the party’s lone MLA. We will take the necessary steps. TVK accepting his support is legally questionable. We will strongly oppose what we consider a case of ‘horse-trading’," he said.
Dhinakaran urged party leaders to maintain unity and avoid hasty decisions that could “demoralise cadres", invoking the legacy of AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran (MGR) and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
Meanwhile, Vijay’s government also secured the support of 25 rebel AIADMK MLAs in the trust vote, who were later expelled from their own party as well.
The rebel camp of AIADMK, led by SP Velumani and C Ve Shanmugam, has given external support to Vijay after accusing party chief Edappadi K Palaniswami of making an attempt to form the government with arch-rival DMK.
The AIADMK also said they had applied for the disqualification of the 25 MLAs who disobeyed the party’s whip and voted to support the TVK-led government, marking the most serious crisis in the party under EPS leadership.
