The future of TikTok — which boasts an estimated 170 million users in the US — appeared uncertain as lawmakers raised alarms over national security, data privacy, and foreign influence. During former President Joe Biden's administration, Congress passed a bipartisan measure requiring TikTok's China-based parent company, ByteDance, to sell its U.S. assets in order to avoid a nationwide ban.But Trump said he wanted to secure an agreement and kept the app online temporarily. Barron Trump, the youngest son of Donald Trump and Melania Trump, has been suggested for a role on the board of TikTok if a deal with American investors seeking to buy the platform goes through. Barron Trump could be running for a top job at TikTok, the president's former social media manager told The Independent.
Barron's name was proposed by Jack Advent at a time when social media giant comes into the US ownership. President Trump made his triumphant return to TikTok on Monday, sharing a video on his profile from the Oval Office that earned him over 6 million views in just a few hours.
"To all those young people of TikTok, I saved TikTok, so you owe me big," the president said. "And now you're looking at me in the Oval Office." Advent has argued that the younger Trump's appointment could broaden TikTok's appeal among young users.

“I'm hopeful President Trump will consider appointing his son Barron and maybe other young Americans to TikTok's board to help ensure it remains an app young people want to keep using,” Advent said.

"Young people are overwhelmingly the user base of TikTok. I'm hopeful President Trump will consider appointing his son Barron and maybe other young Americans to TikTok's board to help ensure it remains an app young people want to keep using," he said.
"Promises made, promises kept. President Trump recognizes TikTok is the favorite platform of America's youth and a powerful tool for small businesses and entrepreneurs to thrive," former advisor for the Trump campaign Alex Bruesewitz told the Daily Mail. "It is now here to stay."
Barron Trump at NYU
It remains unclear what role the 19-year-old Trump could have on the massive social media app, or whether he would consider it. Barron recently moved back into the White House from New York City, where he attends classes at New York University's DC campus. He has not commented on Advent's claims. The teenager is one of the most private figures in the Trump clan, rarely making public appearances with his family and largely keeping to himself.
In January, NewsWeek reported that Barron Trump incorporated a real-estate business in July 2024 then dissolved it in November 2024. One of Barron Trump's partners, Cameron Roxburgh, told Newsweek there were plans to relaunch it. The 19-year-old is also one of the ambassadors of World Liberty Financial, the Trump family's crypto venture.

“Good, he's doing good. He's a good boy. He loves you. He said, ‘Say hello to Kai, dad,'” Trump told Kai. President Trump has often thanked his youngest son for helping him win the youth vote.
William F Hall, adjunct professor of political science and business, Webster University and adjunct instructor of political science at Maryville University and Washington University in St. Louis told Newsweek that if he joins TikTok, it could raise "serious concerns over both the efficacy, if not the inappropriateness, of such an appointment." He said the appointment could create "an appearance of impropriety" and raise questions about "ethics and enrichment by public officials."
According to his mother, first lady Melania Trump, Barron was a key part of Trump's win in 2024. The Republican leader has also claimed that his son suggested he go on Joe Rogan's podcast.
