Guwahati: Arunachal Pradesh chief Minister Pema Khandu hailed the winning of BJP candidates unopposed ahead of the 15 December panchayat and municipal elections in the state. BJP won 58 zilla parishad members (ZPMs), four corporators of the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) and 5,037-gram panchayat members (GPMs).
Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar) secured 109-gram panchayats seats unopposed out of the 594 it contested.
Khandu stated in X, “People of Arunachal have given a sweeping verdict. They have spoken even before polling begins. 58 ZPM elected unopposed, 4 Corporators elected unopposed, 5037 GPM elected unopposed. This unprecedented mandate reflects the people's unshakable trust in BJP's model of development and good governance."
"My heartfelt gratitude to the people of Arunachal. Your overwhelming support strengthens our resolve to serve with even greater dedication and commitment."
"The mandate also reflects the deep faith reposed in the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri narendramodi Ji, Hon'ble BJP National President JP Nadda Ji, and Hon'ble State BJP President Kaling MoyongBJP Ji, under whose guidance we continue to script a new chapter of progress for Arunachal Pradesh.”
Polling in the Dumba Singpho gram panchayat constituency has been countermanded due to the death of a candidate whose nomination was found valid.
Arunachal will hold the 12th elections to panchayati raj institutions and the third municipal polls for Itanagar and Pasighat simultaneously on 15 December.
Electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used for municipal polls, while ballot boxes will be deployed for panchayat elections. Counting of votes will be held on 20 December.
The State Election Commission, for the first time, introduced an on-the-spot voting arrangement for polling personnel assigned to election duties for the upcoming municipal and panchayat polls.
This initiative replaces the previous system of postal ballots and is intended to ensure that all eligible staff members can cast their votes during the 12th general election to panchayat bodies and the third municipal polls for Itanagar and Pasighat, both scheduled for 15 December.
