Add These 7 Foods To Your Diet To Get Rid Of Stubborn Visceral Fat As Shared By A Gastroenterologist

The festive season can mean indulging in high-calorie food as you spend time with loved ones and friends. While it is perfectly good to treat yourself and have a good time, adopting such an attitude for a long time can lead to the development of visceral fat. It can be harmful in the long run. It is important to adopt an attitude of balance at all times.

Saurabh Sethi, MD, MPH, a gastroenterologist who has studied at Harvard, Stanford and AIIMS, shared a detailed video on Instagram on what foods can help to lose visceral fat.

The Gut Doctor wrote in the caption: “I share the 7 foods I routinely recommend to my patients to help reduce visceral fat naturally. If you're struggling with belly fat or slow metabolism, you might be skipping some of the most important foods your body actually needs."

What is visceral fat?

According to an article by the Cleveland Clinic, it is the ‘hidden fat' that sits deep inside your belly, packed around your organs like the liver, stomach, and intestines. You cannot pinch it with your fingers because it is underneath your tummy muscles, not just under the skin. A small amount helps cushion and protect your organs, but too much can upset how your body works and raise the risk of problems like diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

Here are seven foods you want to eat daily if you want to get rid of visceral fat, as shared by the Harvard gastroenterologist:

Green Tea: It boosts fat oxidation and targets visceral fat. You can also drink coffee, as it works as well. These beverages are modestly helpful in reducing visceral fat when used as a supplement to a balanced diet and regular exercise

Avocados and Coconuts: Avocados have monounsaturated fats and soluble fibre that regulate insulin and hunger. Coconut is another good option, as it contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which can boost metabolism and may support fat burning, particularly around the waist. They help, as they are examples of healthy fats and fibre, which make you feel full for longer.

Leafy greens and cruciferous veggies: By adding veggies like kale, spinach, cauliflower, broccoli and more to your diet, you can reduce visceral fat, as they are high in fibre, have antioxidants and keep you full longer. They are also low in calories and rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Fatty fish: Include fatty fish like salmon and sardines in your diet, as they are naturally rich in omega-3, improve insulin sensitivity and target deep belly fat. For vegetarians or vegans, walnuts or flax seeds are great alternatives.

Extra virgin olive oil: It has monounsaturated fats and polyphenols that help reduce visceral body fat. It must be used in moderation, but it can increase metabolism and promote fat oxidation.

Unsweetened Greek yoghurt: Perfect to eat at breakfast as a parfait, yoghurt bowl, smoothie, with oats or granola. Green yoghurt is high protein and probiotics, which make this fermented dairy a superfood.

Strawberries: Currently in season, strawberries have anthocyanins that improve sensitivity and reduce belly fat even without strict dieting. They are sweet while being low in calories, high in fibre and water content, which promotes feelings of fullness and helps regulate blood sugar.
