'Aap Log Duniya Ko Delhi Banakar Hi Maanoge': Viral Post Slams Desi Tour Group’s Behaviour At Brazil Falls, Sparks Debate Online
A viral thread describing chaotic behaviour by a section of Indian tourists at Brazil’s Iguaçu Falls has once again put the spotlight on a recurring—and uncomfortable—conversation: why do Indian travellers often get a bad reputation abroad?
An Indian traveller by the name Gaurav Sabnis shared a long, uncomfortable account of fellow tourists behaving poorly during a boat safari. The thread begins on a reluctant note: “Gives me no pleasure to write this…"—before diving into a detailed narration of what unfolded during the safari.
According to the user, the trouble started right at the queues. Despite a smooth system with frequent vehicles ferrying tourists, a section of an Indian tour group allegedly began cutting lines repeatedly.
“A bunch of desis had just jumped the line… It wasn’t even that long of a wait." While most people ignored it, some international tourists reportedly got upset. But things didn’t stop there. As the group moved towards the boat boarding area, what started as a small cluster soon snowballed. “4 became 8 then 15 & the Delhi bro was still loudly calling out more folks—‘aa jao aa jao’."
The traveller described how people were being openly encouraged to skip queues under the pretext of being “together," even as others waited patiently.
The situation escalated not just because of the line cutting—but also due to volume and attitude. One of the tour group members actually said “‘yeh gorey log ukhad rahey hain… aur ukhdenge.’"
At one point, the author says they intervened directly:“Bohot naam roshan kar rahe ho Bharat ka tum log." The response? An offer to let them also skip ahead, something they firmly refused. “You’re not getting the point… this behaviour creates a bad impression of us Indians," says the user.
The moment that truly stood out, however, came during the boat ride itself.
As tourists soaked in the breathtaking waterfalls, cameras rolling, silence broken only by nature—this group, the user claims, broke into chants. “Suddenly these guys just start loudly chanting ‘INDIA! INDIA!’ like it’s some cricket match." The result? Disruption, embarrassment, and a sense of collective discomfort.
The thread also highlights quieter contrasts—like a Kerala family refusing to cut lines, even when encouraged, and a parent reminding their child: “Don’t spoil India’s reputation. Be patient."
Perhaps the most telling line comes towards the end: “I felt like writing ‘I’m not with them’ on my T-shirt."
The post concludes with a sobering observation—that while many Indians in the group were polite and respectful, it’s the loud, disruptive minority that leaves a lasting impression. “The polite ones will be forgotten… it’s the obnoxious ones who will be remembered."
The ‘Few Who Define The Many’ Problem
Indian tourists today are among the fastest-growing groups globally. From Southeast Asia to Europe and South America, the Indian travel footprint is expanding rapidly. But with that visibility comes scrutiny.
Users on X were also disappointed in this behaviour. “Indians from certain part or region of our country, they feel they own the world and ruin it for rest of us , rude travellers no manners," wrote one user. Another said, “I usually avoid Indians in public places whenever I take any trip. Unfortunate but I must." The reality is simple: it only takes a handful of people to shape a stereotype.
