Samson and Bumrah nominated for ICC March Player of the Month after starring in Indias T20 World Cup win.
India’s two best performers from the 2026 T20 World Cup, Sanju Samson and Jasprit Bumrah, have been nominated for the ICC Player of the Month award for March.
Samson made a late entry into the tournament but delivered in crucial matches to help India defend the title. He smashed an unbeaten 97 against West Indies in a virtual quarter-final in Kolkata, before scoring 89 in both the semi-final against England in Mumbai and the final against New Zealand in Ahmedabad.
Bumrah was equally decisive, taking seven wickets across those games at an average of 12, including a match-winning 4/15 in the final. He was the joint-highest wicket-taker of the competition alongside Varun Chakaravarthy, though the spinner was less impactful due to a much worse economy rate.
South Africa’s Connor Esterhuizen was the third nominee in the men’s category. He impressed in a 3-2 series win in New Zealand, scoring 200 runs at an average of 50 and a strike-rate of 145.98. Named Player of the Series, he also climbed to 39th in the ICC T20I batting rankings.
In the women’s category, New Zealand captain Amelia Kerr, Australia’s veteran batter Beth Mooney, and South Africa pacer Ayabonga Khaka were the three nominees.
Kerr delivered an outstanding all-round display, scoring 176 runs and taking 18 wickets in ODIs, including a remarkable 7/34 against Zimbabwe, while also starring in T20Is with 276 runs and six wickets as New Zealand won both series.
Mooney impressed with key contributions across formats, including an unbeaten 106 against India and a match-winning 79 versus West Indies. Khaka led the bowling effort for South Africa, claiming eight wickets in a T20I series in New Zealand and following it up with a superb 6/56 in an ODI in Christchurch.
Nominees in both categories are selected based on performances across the entire calendar month. The final shortlist is decided from matches played between the first and last day of that period.
Winners are determined through a combined voting process. An independent ICC Voting Academy — made up of respected figures from the cricket world such as journalists, former players, broadcasters, and Hall of Fame members — contributes 90 per cent of the vote, submitting their choices via email.
The remaining 10 per cent comes from fans, who can cast their votes through the ICC’s official website.
The results are revealed in the second week of each month across ICC’s digital platforms.
