Luxury brands around the world are known either by their logos or by their signature patterns. Like Chanel’s interlocking Cs, Versace’s Medusa head, Rolex’s crown, Gucci’s GG, or Burberry’s checks. Every such symbol has a story to tell. Recently, an Australian travel influencer claimed that Louis Vuitton, one of the world’s most popular luxury brands known for its LV logo, stylised flowers, and quatrefoils, has links to ancient Indian temple art.
In a video shared on Instagram, he was seen visiting the 12th-century Chennakeshava Temple in Belur, Karnataka, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its intricate stone carvings. While admiring the beauty and craftsmanship of the place, he came across a sculpture which made him stop and stare.
Influencer Thinks LV Has Taken Inspiration From The Chennakeshava Temple
He said, “I’ve made a great discovery, groundbreaking in the world of fashion." He then zoomed the camera in on a sculpted figure wearing a belt-like cloth. It appeared to feature a four-petal floral pattern resembling that of LV’s well-known monogram flower.
FYI, the Chennakeshava Temple, also known as the Keshava or Vijayanarayana Temple of Belur, is one of the larger and more renowned Hoysala temples and was commissioned by King Vishnuvardhana in 1117 CE after a major military victory over the Cholas in the great battle of Talakkad. It is located on the banks of the Yagachi River in Belur, also known as Velapura. The temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, is best known for its exquisitely carved figures of gods, goddesses, and dancers.
“I found where Louis Vuitton gets their little flower symbol from, except they don’t credit the ancient Indians. It’s carved here in stone, the original Louis Vuitton belt, a thousand years ago," the travel influencer said in the clip.

Internet Says “Indians Are The Best"
His post has gone viral on social media, with many praising his discovery while others debated that global fashion houses have drawn inspiration from Indian art and craft without giving them proper credit.
“We Indians are the best, and why are we searching for validation from foreign countries to start valuing our Indian culture and ethics?" said one person.
“Only if there was Internet access in the 1900s…..the World would’ve known how much the Westerners have copied from Ancient India…..and how much knowledge Britishers st○le from India from Historic Books and marketed as their own Innovation," someone else mentioned.
Another individual applauded the influencer, saying, “Mahn! You have microscopes attached to your eyes. This level of detailing is incredible! Urging @ministryofculturegoi to employ you, permanently."
Meanwhile, a different individual said, “I mean… that’s a bit too much reaching bro even for us Indians…. the indian appeasement foreign engagement is out of this world. It’s just a simple flower design, what’s there to claim on it as Indian? My God."
What Does LV’s Official History Say?
The history behind LV’s floral motif, as shared by the brand itself, is different. According to their official site, “In 1896, Georges Louis Vuitton begins the search for a new motif to become a signature emblem for the House. Inspired by Art Nouveau, Japonism, and Gothic heraldic art, Georges creates the now-iconic Monogram canvas — combining geometrical floral motifs with the initials ‘LV’ — a tribute to his father, who passed away in 1892."
