‘100% Literacy, Zero Paper Waste’: Kerala Bride’s Father Wears QR Code On Shirt For Guests To ‘Give Digital Blessings’
Weddings in India are known for their traditions, fun, and grandeur, but one recent celebration in Kerala added a modern spin that caught everyone's attention. Guests at the wedding didn't need to carry cash or gift envelopes; instead, they were asked to scan a QR code and transfer their blessings digitally.
The bride's father became an overnight sensation after he was spotted wearing a Paytm QR code badge pinned to his shirt. The idea, playfully dubbed “cashless at marriage," left people online amused and impressed in equal measure, calling it a true symbol of Digital India.
Guests Send ‘Shagun' Through QR Code
The video begins with a lively wedding setup, bright lights, colourful decorations, and a stage ready for celebration. As the camera pans around, it focuses on a man standing at the entrance, the bride's father, greeting guests with a smile. What catches everyone's eye, however, is the Paytm QR code neatly pinned to his shirt pocket.
Instead of handing over envelopes, guests are seen taking out their phones to scan the code and transfer money instantly. The father appears cheerful, nodding as each guest completes their digital “gift."
The short clip captures several people walking up to him, scanning the code, and then heading inside to join the celebration.

Internet Shares Mixed Reactions
Shared on October 29, the video has already crossed 1.9 million views and sparked thousands of reactions. While many appreciated the father's creativity, others weren't too pleased.
A user wrote, “Yeah boi!!! Immediate shagun."
Another said, “Good idea."
“100% Literacy Bro," commented one person, appreciating the tech-savvy approach. However, not everyone agreed.
“Instead of standing like a beggar, he could have pasted the code somewhere," one user remarked.
Another wrote, “What an excellent way of begging, not a speck of decency."
Some also shared personal views, “In my wedding, we clearly mentioned in the card, presents in blessings only. People should be valued for their coming, not gifts," said an individual.
Kerala Couple Registers Marriage Through Video KYC
Days ago, a couple from Kerala's Kawassery Panchayat went viral for registering their marriage through Video KYC, giving a modern spin to a traditional ritual.
A short video shows them smiling at the camera while completing the process online, a clear example of how technology is making marriages simpler and faster.
