In a recent conversation with the Indian Express, Zareen Khan shared that she was once an “obese teenager weighing over 100 kg." Coming from a family with a history of chronic illnesses, she realised early on that her health needed to be a priority. But her transformation was not overnight. It was the result of years of effort, consistency, and discipline.
She recalled facing harsh criticism after her debut film, not just for her work but also for her appearance. Without the support of a film family or industry connections, Zareen said she felt the need to tread cautiously, making every career choice count. Despite the noise, she emphasised that she has always felt comfortable in her own skin, stating, “An actor should be judged by their skills, not their weight."

Zareen admitted that there was a phase when she resorted to punishing herself with extreme diets, often surviving on liquids. While the methods initially helped her lose weight – dropping from 100 kg to 57 kg by 2018 – she later realised they were neither healthy nor sustainable. Over time, she shifted her focus away from chasing six-pack abs and instead embraced balance, strength, and overall well-being.

Her fitness now includes strength training, MMA, and tennis, complemented by yoga, Pilates, and cardio-based activities like jogging and swimming. Today, Zareen stands as an example of resilience – someone who has learned to value health over appearances. Her journey is not just about transformation, but about self-acceptance and building a lifestyle that prioritises strength, balance, and mindful living.
