'Youth-Centric, Employment-Oriented': Education Minister Pradhan Hails Budget 2026
Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan lauded the 2026-27 Budget, calling it a Yuva Shakti-driven budget that greatly boosts education and employment opportunities and sets a roadmap for future development. The Ministry of Education's budget allocation has risen to Rs 1,39,289.48 crore, an 8.27% increase from the BE 2025-26.
Pradhan highlighted the Union Budget 2026-27 as a comprehensive plan to harness Bharat's growth potential, promote inclusive development, and realise the vision of Viksit Bharat. He stated it is a forward-looking, youth-centric, and growth-stimulating budget that benefits all, especially the poor and middle-class families.
Pradhan noted the high female participation in STEM education in India and announced plans to establish girls' hostels in every district to encourage further enrolment. He also praised the establishment of India's Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC) Content Creator Labs in 15,000 secondary schools and 500 colleges to provide a platform for two million professionals by 2030.

The overall Budget Allocation for FY 2026-27 is Rs. 55,727.22 crore, with Scheme allocation at Rs. 10,142.40 crore and non-Scheme allocation at Rs. 45,584.82 crore. The Department of Higher Education sees an overall increase of Rs. 5,649.27 crore (11.28%) from FY 2025-26.

School Education Budget
The Budget Allocation for FY 2026-27 is Rs. 83,562 crore, the highest ever for the Department of School Education and Literacy. This marks an overall increase of Rs. 4,990 crore (6.35%) from BE 2025-26 and Rs. 12,995 crore (18.42%) from RE 2025-26.
The highest-ever Budget Allocations are seen in Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) at Rs. 10,129.41 crore, an increase of Rs. 625.57 crore, and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) at Rs. 6,025 crore, an increase of Rs. 719.77 crore from FY 2025-26.
Allocations for flagship schemes have also increased: Samagra Shiksha by Rs. 850.02 crore, PM-POSHAN by Rs. 250.00 crore from BE 2025-26, with further increases of Rs. 4,100.00 crore (10.79%) for Samagra Shiksha, Rs. 2,150.00 crore (20.28%) for PM-POSHAN, and Rs. 3,000 crore (66.67%) for PM-SHRI from RE 2025-26.
A new flagship initiative, Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL), has been allocated Rs. 3,200 crore for FY 2026-27.
Out of the overall Budget Allocation for FY 2026-27, Rs. 66,641.02 crore is for Scheme allocation and Rs. 16,921.24 crore for Non-Scheme allocation. This represents a Scheme allocation increase of Rs. 3,552.02 crore (5.63%) from BE 2025-26 and Rs. 12,032 crore (22.03%) from RE 2025-26, with Non-Scheme allocation rising by Rs. 963.12 crore (6.04%) in BE 2026-27.
