By 7 am, the level climbed further to 205.75 metres. Authorities have warned that the Yamuna may touch the evacuation mark of 206 metres by Tuesday evening.
Heavy rains continued to batter Delhi-NCR on Monday and Tuesday, leaving roads waterlogged, traffic paralysed, and prompting a flood warning as the Yamuna river rose above the danger mark.
Authorities said the water level at the Old Railway Bridge touched 205.75 metres on Tuesday morning, surpassing the danger threshold of 205.33 metres, raising the risk of flooding in low-lying areas of the capital.

Torrential rains paralyse Delhi-NCR
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) upgraded its advisory for the city to an orange alert, warning of moderate to heavy showers this week. At Palam airport, visibility dropped from 2,500 metres at 2.30 pm to just 800 metres by 3 pm during an intense downpour, the IMD said. Safdarjung station recorded 18.6 mm of rainfall till 5.30 pm, while Aya Nagar logged 48.9 mm.Mahesh Palawat, vice president (meteorology and climate change) at Skymet, said Delhi should brace for more showers in the coming days. “The city will continue to see on-and-off rain till September 5,” he told PTI. “This spell is being driven both by the monsoon and an unusually active western disturbance, which has been causing heavy rainfall in the Himalayan states and influencing weather in Delhi as well.”
The persistent rain brought Gurugram, Noida and Ghaziabad to a crawl. Times of India reported that waterlogging reached two to three feet in some areas, while a four-kilometre traffic jam stretched from Hero Honda Chowk to Narsinghpur on NH-48. In Gurugram, a leakage was reported at a flyover, and the Signature Tower Chowk underpass was submerged.
Authorities on high alert as Yamuna swells
With water levels in the Yamuna rising steadily, the Delhi government issued a flood warning on Monday, ordering officials to patrol vulnerable stretches and move people living along the embankments to safer ground.“As the water level of ORB (Delhi Old Railway Bridge) may cross the danger level and is likely to exceed 206.50m, a CWC advisory may be expected soon. So, all the Sector Officers are hereby advised to keep a strict vigil in their respective areas and to take necessary action at vulnerable points, such as people residing within the river embankments, shall be warned and shifted to safer places,” a Delhi government order said, as quoted by ANI.
Air travel was also hit. IndiGo issued an advisory on X warning passengers of delays, saying: “Traffic towards the airport is currently slower in several areas. We recommend planning your commute in advance and checking your flight status before heading out.” Air India issued a similar notice.
The weather office has forecast cloudy skies and moderate rain for Tuesday, with another fresh spell expected on September 3. Meanwhile, Monday's maximum temperature stood at 30.8°C, nearly 4°C below normal, and the minimum at 23.7°C, about 3°C below average. Humidity ranged from 90% to 71% through the day.
Air quality improved due to the rains, with the Central Pollution Control Board recording an AQI of 60, categorised as ‘satisfactory'.
