WPL 2026 Auction: India's 2025 Women's Cricket World Cup victory ignited a surge in the Women's Premier League's commercial appeal. Record viewership and digital reach translated into increased sponsorship, higher player valuations, and a boom in endorsements, transforming women's cricket into a mainstream marketing asset.
The 2025 ICC Women's Cricket World Cup didn't just crown a champion -- it changed the trajectory of the Women's Premier League. What had been a steady rise in interest suddenly became a surge of money, attention and structural change.
Viewership numbers that changed perceptions
India's run to, and win in, the tournament created an extraordinary visibility spike: the final alone drew 185 million viewers on JioHotstar equalled the record set by the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup final, and the overall digital reach touched 446 million -- the highest ever for a women's International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament and was bigger than the combined total of the last three editions, as per official data.These are benchmark-level numbers usually associated with men's events, and they gave broadcasters and advertisers the confidence that fans aren't tuning in for just one-off spectacles -- they're ready for premium women's cricket throughout the year.

That confidence translated quickly into commercial behaviour.
The WPL already had a healthy media-rights foundation, with Viacom18/JioStar paying around ₹951 crore for multi-year rights.
But after the World Cup, sponsors -- including several categories that had never invested in women's sport -- moved in faster and with bigger budgets.
The league's commercial slate for 2026–27 features heavyweight partners, a sign that WPL inventory is now viewed as premium, not experimental. And nowhere is this shift clearer than in player economics.
Smriti Mandhana's valuation of roughly ₹3.4 crore at RCB, the ₹3.2 crore bracket for marquee overseas stars like Ashleigh Gardner and Nat Sciver-Brunt, and the multi-crore buzz around Indian talents such as Deepti Sharma and Jemimah Rodrigues all point to a market that is no longer tentative.
And with World Cup performers firmly in the spotlight, one of the biggest surprises of the off-season was UP Warriorz choosing not to retain Deepti -- especially just weeks after she was named Player of the Tournament in India's title-winning ODI World Cup run.
Higher retainers and auction ceilings mean that more players can pursue cricket as a full-time profession, improving the league's overall quality and stability.
Endorsements go into overdrive
The commercial ripple extended to endorsements too.The endorsement landscape has undergone a dramatic shift since India's World Cup win, with brands moving swiftly to lock in the sport's new icons.
An Economic Times report suggest that the sport's leading faces -- from Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana to Harmanpreet Kaur, Deepti Sharma and Shafali Verma -- have all seen their endorsement fees jump between 25% and 100%.

"Since this morning, there's been a rush of brand queries-not just new endorsements but also renegotiations, with fee increases upwards of 25-30%," said Tuhin Mishra, Managing Director of Baseline Ventures.
What's striking is not just the size of the jump but the breadth of interest: banks, FMCG leaders, financial services firms and lifestyle brands are now as active as traditional sports sponsors, signalling a market that increasingly treats women cricketers as mainstream ambassadors rather than niche influencers.
Harmanpreet Kaur is perhaps the clearest example of this shift.
Fresh off her World Cup–defining catch to seal India's win, the captain has seen her commercial appeal explode. She went into the tournament with more than eight brand partnerships already in place, but the demand curve has steepened dramatically since.
Her manager, Noopur Kashyap, told PTI that both the number and the value of her deals are set to triple, driven largely by interest from sectors that had never previously engaged with women's cricket. This wave of non-sport brands reaching out marks a new phase: Harmanpreet isn't just a cricket star anymore -- she's a national marketing asset.
To add to this, Jemimah Rodrigues' World Cup semi-final masterclass -- an innings many have already labelled the standout knock of the tournament -- has transformed her commercial profile almost overnight.
Her brand value has effectively doubled, said Karan Yadav, chief commercial officer at JSW Sports, which manages her portfolio. “The moment that match against Australia ended, our phones didn't stop ringing,” he said, noting they are currently in talks with brands across a dozen sectors.
At just 25, the Bandra-born batter now commands endorsement rates comparable with India's most visible women athletes. Depending on the scope and duration of the deal, her signing fee ranges from ₹75 lakh to ₹1.5 crore, Yadav explained.
A major driver of her rising appeal has been her openness off the field -- especially her viral reflection on battling anxiety during the tournament, an admission that resonated widely and set social media records. Her existing partners include Red Bull, Boat, Nike, SG and Surf Excel.

Most bankable face
Smriti Mandhana remains the WPL's highest-paid player and one of the country's most reliable brand magnets, with a portfolio of 16 endorsements spanning giants like HUL's Rexona, Nike, Hyundai, Herbalife, SBI, Gulf Oil and PNB MetLife. Her deals typically deliver ₹1.5–2 crore per brand annually.Taken together, the surge in endorsements reflects more than just a post-tournament high. It shows a broader realignment in the brand economy, where women players are finally being recognised as year-round, high-impact storytellers with the reach and cultural relevance to carry campaigns on their own.
These changes are already reshaping the WPL itself.
Teams are building deeper, more balanced squads with greater emphasis on multi-dimensional players. Broadcasters are investing more in production quality, storytelling and distribution. The push for predictable international windows, so overseas stars can consistently participate, is gaining traction.
And because success at the top inspires investment at the bottom, state boards and academies are funnelling more resources into girls' cricket programmes, strengthening the pipeline.
None of this eliminates the challenges. Rising player salaries and production costs mean franchises must maintain strong, diversified revenues, not just enjoy the post-World Cup high.
Poor scheduling or sponsor churn could stall momentum. But the sport's centre of gravity has clearly shifted. The 2025 Women's World Cup proved that the audience exists; the WPL is capitalising on it; and the ecosystem -- from broadcasters to brands to grassroots programmes -- is now evolving to match the scale of that opportunity.
The 2025 Women's World Cup validated the commercial case for women's cricket, triggering higher player prices, stronger sponsors, rising endorsement values and a more professional WPL structure, even as the league must manage costs and calendars to sustain its new momentum.
