Would You Pay $2 To Speak To Jesus? Viral AI App Offering Paid Chats With Christ Leaves The Internet Divided
A new AI platform is making waves online for offering something once confined to faith and imagination: the ability to ‘talk’ to Jesus Christ. The app, called Just Like Me, has gone viral across social media for enabling users to interact with an AI-generated avatar of the central figure of Christianity, but at a cost.
The service charges $1.99 (approximately Rs 188) per minute for conversations with the AI persona. Users can choose between voice and video calls, with the platform offering a brief free trial before prompting them to enter card details. Subscription packages are also available, lowering the effective per-minute cost for longer usage.
Visually, the avatar is designed to resemble popular portrayals of Jesus, featuring soft lighting, calm expressions and slow, reassuring gestures. According to the company, the character is inspired by actor Jonathan Roumie’s depiction in ‘The Chosen.’
The AI model behind the avatar has reportedly been trained on the King James Bible, along with a wide range of sermons, allowing it to respond with scripture-like guidance and spiritual advice.
CEO Chris Breed has suggested that users often develop a sense of connection with the AI, noting that repeated interactions can foster familiarity and even emotional attachment. “You do feel a little accountable to the AI," he said. “They’re your friend. You’ve made an attachment."
From Buddhist chatbot monks to virtual Hindu gurus, developers are increasingly exploring how artificial intelligence can deliver spiritual guidance. Platforms like ChatwithGod even allow users to customise AI chatbots according to their religious preferences and emotional needs.
However, the emergence of faith-based AI tools has also triggered widespread debate, with many users expressing discomfort.
“Whoever made this app is going to hell," one user wrote bluntly, while another described the moment as the beginning of a “post AI-Christ era."
“Why pay money for fake Jesus when you can go to church and pray to the real one for free lol," a user commented.
A few reactions took a more cynical tone. “I’m an atheist and I sure wish I had thought of this. They probably think it’s real," another user remarked.
At the same time, some comments reflected curiosity mixed with speculation. “What if this is how Christ comes back? To reach people in our modern world, he comes back through an app? It makes too much sense… the second coming of Christ is an app!" one user wrote.
