‘Would’ve Got Less Hate If I Grabbed His A**’: Erika Kirk Mocks Outrage Over JD Vance Hug
Erika Kirk, the widow of late Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk, has dismissed online speculation over her now-viral hug with US Vice President JD Vance, insisting the moment was entirely innocent and blown wildly out of proportion.
Speaking to conservative commentator Megyn Kelly, Erika said the criticism revealed more about “outrage culture" than about the interaction itself.
“They'd just played the emotional video. I'm walking over, he's walking over, I'm starting to cry," she recalled. As the two embraced, Vance leaned in and told her, “I'm so proud of you."
Erika said she responded with “God bless you" and briefly touched the back of Vance's head, a gesture she described as instinctive and something she does with “everyone I hug."
“If you've ever hugged me, I've done that," she said. “If you want to take that out of context, go right ahead. To me, that just shows you need a hug more than anyone else."
The clip, widely circulated online, triggered speculation about the lingering head-touch. Kelly mocked the backlash, saying critics behaved as if Erika had touched “the back of his a."**
Erika burst into laughter. “I feel like I wouldn't get as much hate if I did that," she joked.
She added that the scrutiny has become so absurd that she now double-checks her hugs:
“I'll bring people back in and say, ‘I obviously didn't give you the right hug, let me touch the back of your head.'"
Erika said her “love language is touch," and that those attacking her online probably “need a hug themselves."
“I will give you a free hug anytime," she added.
Calling the moment with Vance purely emotional, Erika insisted, “That hug it was an emotional moment. That is all."
Vice President Vance, who has been married to Usha Vance since 2014, has not commented on the controversy.
Erika, who has stepped in as TPUSA's chief executive after her husband's murder, said the transition has been painful but essential to continuing his work.
“Since Charlie passed, I've stepped into the role he built. It's what he would have wanted."
She also confirmed that TPUSA is preparing to support Vance should he run for president in 2028.
Asked by Kelly whether the organisation would back Vance in a post-Trump Republican primary, Erika responded confidently:
“Don't worry — it's already in the works."

She added that her late husband had been unequivocal about backing Vance for 2028:
“One of the last conversations we had was how intentional he was about supporting JD."
