Nurul Syazwani, a Malaysian woman who turned into a caregiver for her bedridden husband for six years following his car accident, shared a message on social media congratulating him on his new marriage. The man, who had been bedridden for six years, divorced his wife and remarried a woman after he recovered from the accident. While Syazwani's was full of love and acceptance, many social media users were angry at her ex-husband for leaving her.
What happened
As per a report in the South China Morning Post, Nurul Syazwani had married the man in 2016. They had been in a long-distance marriage for two years when he was involved in a car accident that left him incapacitated, Sin Chew Daily reported.
For a period of six years, Syazwani assumed the role of the primary caregiver. She fed the man through a nasogastric tube, helped him bathe and changed his diapers. The couple have a son together. In 2019, Syazwani began talking about her caregiving experiences on social media. It helped her gain over 32,000 followers on Facebook alone.

In a post on social media, Syazwani dropped photos from her ex-husband's wedding and wished him the best. She wrote, “Congratulations to my ‘husband'. I hope you are happy with the one you chose. Aifa Aizam, please take good care of him like I did. I am done with him; now it is your turn to take over." She later had to delete the post following the backlash.
In a separate post, Nurul Syazwani mentioned that she and her husband had divorced her on October 6, 2024. She stated that they would continue to co-parent their son. Her husband had reportedly remarried just a week after the divorce.

Many people condemned the man for leaving Syazwani. “I don't believe he fulfilled his duties as a husband. How can someone be so ungrateful, as if he has no heart?" one person wrote.
Another commented, “The court should give every penny of his to her, and he should pay 6 years of caretaking for her."
