West Bengal SIR Final Electoral Roll To Be Published Today, Over 7 Crore Voters On Revised List

West Bengal SIR Final Electoral Roll To Be Published Today, Over 7 Crore Voters On Revised List
West Bengal’s final electoral roll after the SIR will be published on Saturday, listing 7.08 crore voters and categorising entries as approved, deleted or under adjudication.
The final electoral roll following West Bengal’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is set to be released on Saturday, concluding a months-long verification exercise that has emerged as a major political and administrative issue ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
According to the Election Commission sources, the revised voter list will be published online and will reflect significant changes made during the statewide revision process.
The publication marks the culmination of an exercise that updated the electoral database covering more than seven crore voters and triggered intense political debate across the state.
HOW VOTERS CAN CHECK THEIR NAME
Once published, voters will be able to verify their inclusion in the revised electoral roll through multiple official platforms.
The list will be available on the Election Commission of India’s website (eci.gov.in), the Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal website (ceowestbengal.wb.gov.in), and the ECI Net mobile application.
Voters can check their status by entering their name and EPIC number (Voter ID number).
If a voter’s details have been verified successfully, the name will appear normally in the roll.
Cases still under scrutiny will be marked as “Under Adjudication.”
Names removed during verification will be labelled “Deleted.”
Hard copies of the rolls will also be available from Booth Level Officers (BLOs), enabling voters to verify their details in person.
FINAL ELECTORAL ROLL FORMAT AND NUMBERS
Election Commission sources said the revised roll reflects a reduction in total voters following scrutiny carried out during the SIR process.
The initial voter count stood at 7.66 crore, but after the deletion of 58 lakh names, the electorate has been revised to 7.08 crore voters, whose names will appear in the final list scheduled for publication on February 28.
The roll will categorise entries into three groups:
Newly enrolled voters will be placed in a separate supplementary list to be published alongside the main roll.
The February 28 publication represents a key stage in a statewide revision exercise, the first such intensive update conducted in West Bengal since 2002, aimed at cleaning and updating electoral records ahead of a major election.
FIGURES UNDER REVIEW DURING THE EXERCISE
Large numbers of voters were flagged during the scrutiny stages of the revision.
Election Commission sources indicated:
These figures come in addition to the 58 lakh deletions already reflected in the revised electorate.
The hearings were conducted for nearly 1.67 crore electors, highlighting the scale of the administrative process that involved extensive field verification and adjudication proceedings.
POLITICAL REACTIONS INTENSIFY
The SIR exercise has become a central political flashpoint in West Bengal, with major parties offering sharply contrasting interpretations of the revision.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed concern over the scale of deletions, stating that she believes more than one crore voter names may have been removed.
The Trinamool Congress has repeatedly slammed the process, alleging risks of exclusion and describing the exercise as comparable to an NRC-style verification.
Banerjee earlier argued that “lakhs of genuine voters are at risk of exclusion”.
The Bharatiya Janata Party, however, has supported the revision.
State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya said the party would examine the final list but described the exercise as an effort to remove alleged infiltrators and ensure electoral integrity.
The BJP leaders have maintained that a clean voter list is essential to a transparent democratic mandate.
Opposition parties, including the CPI(M) and Congress, have also raised concerns about the timing and implementation of the process, warning that confusion among voters could undermine trust.
A HIGH-STAKES MOMENT BEFORE ASSEMBLY POLLS
What began as a routine administrative revision has evolved into a defining political battle ahead of the Assembly elections, with debates over identity, migration and voter eligibility shaping public discourse.
The Election Commission has reiterated that the SIR is a statutory exercise intended to ensure accuracy and that affected voters have avenues for appeal and inclusion through supplementary rolls.
With the final electoral roll set to be published, political parties are expected to closely scrutinise the updated list.
