'Went To Sleep Hoping Leo Liked Me...': Kevin Prince Boateng Opens Up On Messi's Pull At Barcelona

Former Barcelona player Kevin-Prince Boateng opened up on Lionel Messi's pull at the Catalan club, shedding light on the board wanting to consult on the signing of the Ghanaian star with the Argentine superstar.

Boateng, who played for the Blaugrana in 2019, revealed that the sporting director and the president of the club wanted to get the green light for the signing of the Ghanaian from Messi.

“Before I went to Barcelona, both sporting directors wanted me, the president wanted me, the coach wanted me," the 38-year-old said.

“I said ‘perfect, I'll sign tomorrow' but no. They told me they had to ask Leo Messi first," he continued.

“I was like… ‘what do you mean?' and they told me they had to ask Leo Messi, because he had that power," Boateng said.

“I was going to sleep hoping that Leo Messi liked me, or that he saw me in his team. I knew that tomorrow I could sign for Barcelona, but if Leo said no, I wouldn't sign for the club."

The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner, who joined Barcelona as a 13-year-old in the early 2000s, went on to secure an impressive 35 titles with the Catalan club. His achievements include 10 La Liga championships, 4 UEFA Champions League titles, and 3 FIFA Club World Cups.

In 2021, Messi had to leave Barcelona for PSG due to the financial difficulties faced by the Spanish giants.
