Vivek Oberoi Says He ‘Almost Died’ While Shooting Road in Rajasthan; Recalls Terrifying Camel-Cart Crash

Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh, and Aftab Shivdasani are gearing up for the release of Mastiii 4, reuniting on the big screen after years. While promoting the film, Vivek opened up on Mashable India about a terrifying moment from early in his career—one that nearly cost him his life.

A Night Drive That Almost Turned Fatal

Vivek revealed that the incident happened in Rajasthan while shooting for his 2002 film Road. The team was travelling from Bikaner to Jaisalmer late at night. Despite repeatedly warning the driver to slow down because of low visibility, the actor found himself in the middle of a horrifying crash.

“I was shooting in Rajasthan for Road. We were going from Bikaner to Jaisalmer. Beautiful roads, beautiful drive, but it was at night. I told the driver at least 15 to 20 times to drive slowly; visibility is low, drive slowly," Vivek recalled. He was seated in the front passenger seat and reclined slightly to rest.

Moments later, disaster struck. “Suddenly there was a huge crash, a massive sound. A camel cart carrying rods came out of nowhere. The rods smashed the windshield, and if my seat had been straight, those rods would have gone into my body. I couldn't get out of the car because the rods were above me. But I was unscathed. Almost died. After that, I decided not to travel at night."

A Second Scare With A Speeding Driver

Vivek went on to narrate another scary encounter with reckless driving years later. He shared how a driver he had hired started speeding despite warnings.

“Later, when I was with a driver, he did the same. He was speeding, so I told him to stop the car and use the washroom. I told him to get down and go to the washroom. I came on his side, took the key, and drove off without him," he said, adding that the night-time accident had changed him forever.

About Road and Vivek's Upcoming Release

Released in 2002, Road starred Vivek Oberoi, Antara Mali, and Manoj Bajpayee in a high-octane thriller set against Rajasthan's vast landscapes.

Vivek's next major project, Mastiii 4, directed by Milap Zaveri, hits cinemas on November 21, 2025.
