Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma's Stark Difference! 'Cold Shoulder' And 'Small Talk' With Gautam Gambhir: Report

On the eve of the second one-day international against South Africa in Raipur, a notable incident occurred during India's practice session. After completing an intense, high-quality batting practice under lights, Virat Kohli walked past head coach Gautam Gambhir without acknowledging him. This visual quickly became the evening's talking point. The episode took place at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium, where the Indian team trained ahead of the crucial match, with both Kohli and Rohit Sharma engaging in extended, focused sessions.

As per PTI, Kohli looked particularly sharp while facing throwdown specialists Raghu and Nuwan Seneviratne, who increased the pace significantly. Despite occasionally being beaten by sheer speed, Kohli dominated the session with crisp timing and a full range of strokes. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma also trained with purpose in the adjacent net, matching the tempo and showing that neither of India's senior-most batters is easing off, despite speculation about their longevity with the 2027 ODI World Cup still years away.

Gautam Gambhir maintained a watchful presence throughout the session, positioning himself strategically to observe both Rohit and Kohli. However, when Kohli finished, carrying his bats across his shoulders, his decision to walk past Gambhir without a word stood out. Given ongoing chatter about their professional dynamic, the moment naturally sparked curiosity. In contrast, Rohit briefly paused to speak with Gambhir before leaving, a small but noticeable difference that heightened the intrigue around Kohli's silence.

Beyond the focus on the senior pair, the rest of the Indian squad utilised the training conditions fully. Yashasvi Jaiswal launched a series of powerful leg-side hits, while Rishabh Pant, the last batter to take strike, immediately went on the attack. With a pitch expected to favour strokeplay due to its black-soil composition, the entire batting group approached the nets with aggression.

Their preparation reflected the confidence shown in the first ODI, where Rohit Sharma scored a fluent 57 off 51 balls, and Kohli delivered a commanding performance with his 52nd ODI century, scoring 135 off 120 deliveries. His innings, studded with seven sixes, combined with Rohit's strong start, propelled India to a formidable total of 349. South Africa fought back admirably after being reduced to 11 for 3, but ultimately fell 17 runs short.

With a 1–0 lead in the three-match series, India now heads into the second ODI eager to wrap up the contest and extend their momentum on Wednesday.
