Venture out of ordinary, be demanding and mentor next gen: Piyush Goyal’s five demands from industry

Union Minister Piyush Goyal urged industry participants at FICCI's AGM to audit advocacy outcomes and set bold growth targets, emphasizing the need for domestic capital in startups and R&D. He also called for mentoring next-generation leaders and expanding FICCI's reach to remote areas, pushing for greater societal engagement and a drive towards national excellence.
Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, while addressing FICCI's 98th Annual General Meeting and Annual Convention on Tuesday, outlined his five key demands for industry leaders, urging them to set bolder targets.
"First is audit your advocacy outcomes. Speaking for industry, be more demanding. See which ideas got accepted, maybe you will find something. Some ideas got lost, but this exercise will help you assess your role in the coming century," said Piyush Goyal.
Talking about his demands, Goyal said, "Set bold targets. We can't be satisfied with incremental growth; we need to venture out of the ordinary. We need domestic capital, Indian money in startups and R&D. It can't always be foreign investment; at initial stages, it should have domestic money. Be bold in outlook."
Additionally, the Union Minister has asked the industry to take inspiration from other nations including Korea, Sweden and study best-in-class facilitation models.
"Fourth, we need to mentor next-gen leaders. While I am happy seeing youngsters leading, I am disappointed seeing them, no names taken, they are not seen in engagements other than parties and weddings. When will next gen join FICCI? Engaging with society, your CSIR activities, policies, we need to see more. We need to mentor them," said Goyal.
Lastly, while addressing FICCI, the minister asked the apex organisation to expand to remote areas of India. "FICCI and activities of apex chambers should not be restricted to a pink picture or big businesses.
Let's make FICCI an uncomfortable leader who will power India towards excellence," said Goyal. Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
