Trump Unveils Fast-Track FIFA Visas For 2026 Football World Cup, Says No Entry Guarantee

President Donald Trump on Monday unveiled a special expedited visa process for fans holding tickets to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while cautioning that the fast-track system does not ensure admission into the United States.

The announcement comes as the US works to reassure international visitors of a smooth experience despite concerns over Trump's intensified border policies, according to AFP.

Speaking in the Oval Office alongside FIFA president Gianni Infantino, Trump urged fans to apply early. “For those who intend to join us for the World Cup, I strongly encourage you to apply right away," he said while introducing the new “FIFA Pass."

Infantino, who has frequently appeared with Trump since the Republican returned to the White House in January, called the initiative a “very important announcement," AFP reported. He said the pass would give ticket holders priority appointments for visa interviews.

“With this FIFA Pass, we can make sure that those who buy a ticket — legitimate football or soccer fans — can come and attend the World Cup in the best conditions," Infantino said, projecting that between five and 10 million visitors could travel to the US for the tournament.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stressed that the fast-track system would not bypass vetting procedures. “Your ticket is not a visa," Rubio said. “It doesn't guarantee admission to the US. It guarantees you an expedited appointment." He added that interviews would be scheduled within six to eight weeks but urged applicants not to delay.

Trump has positioned the 2026 World Cup as a signature event of his second presidency and a landmark celebration ahead of the 250th anniversary of US independence next year, AFP noted. But the tournament has become entangled in political tensions as Trump criticises crime and migration in several Democratic-run host cities and has hinted at shifting matches elsewhere.

The World Cup draw is scheduled for December 5 in Washington, where FIFA is also set to unveil a new peace prize — with speculation that Trump could be among the contenders.
