In a development that could reshape the entire Asian geopolitical landscape, Donald Trump is planning to meet North Korea's Kim Jong Un during his upcoming Asia visit next month - a high-stakes summit that nobody saw coming. According to a CNN report on Saturday, officials in the Trump administration have been quietly discussing arranging a face-to-face meeting between the President and the North Korean leader. However, the final confirmation remains shrouded in mystery.
The report said Trump contacted Kim earlier this year, but North Korea didn't respond. Still, Trump is moving forward.

If this meeting happens, everything changes. Trump meeting Kim during an Asia trip, with China watching, South Korea hosting, and the entire region holding its breath, could either become the diplomatic breakthrough of the decade or the most controversial summit in modern history. Either way, nobody will be able to look away.
Trump's interest in potentially meeting Kim Jong Un was sparked during his August summit with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung at the White House. During the meeting, Lee suggested that the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit could provide a chance for Trump to meet Kim, according to CNN.
The APEC summit is scheduled to be held in Gyeongju, South Korea, on October 31 and November 1.
However, South Korea's top envoy to the United States stated on Friday that there is currently no confirmation of a meeting between the US President Donald Trump and the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during the summit.
Ambassador Kang Kyung-wha made the comments during a parliamentary review at South Korea's mission to the United Nations in New York, addressing ongoing speculation about a possible Trump-Kim engagement at the APEC event.
“President Trump has expressed openness to dialogue, and North Korea has also shown some interest, but there is no indication yet that a meeting will take place at the APEC summit,” Kang said during the session of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee.
Ambassador Kang Kyung-wha said they are closely tracking developments and remain open to the possibility of a Trump-Kim meeting.
She added, “We are monitoring developments closely while keeping the possibility of a Trump-Kim meeting open,” according to Yonhap News Agency.
