Trump Plans To Formalise Gaza Peace Board In Davos Signing Event
US President Donald Trump is preparing to formally establish a newly proposed “Board of Peace" for Gaza, with a signing ceremony expected as early as Thursday during his appearance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
An invitation that has been shared online suggests the event is imminent, even as some allied governments privately express uncertainty about whether they will participate.
The initiative was unveiled by Trump on Friday and is described as a body intended to manage postwar recovery and rebuilding efforts in the Gaza Strip. However, a draft version of the board's charter that has circulated publicly does not explicitly reference Gaza, prompting restrained and skeptical responses from officials.
According to ABC News, the omission has fueled speculation among governments that the panel's mandate may extend well beyond the stated purpose.
Trump, who would serve as chairman, praised the initiative on Truth Social as “the Greatest and Most Prestigious Board ever assembled," though concrete details remain limited. Invitations have reportedly been sent to numerous countries, including Israel, Egypt, Canada, Australia, India, Turkey, Jordan, Argentina, Hungary, Pakistan, Belarus and others.
Russia has also confirmed receiving an invitation, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov saying Moscow is reviewing the proposal and seeking clarification from Washington.
France Rejects Peace Board Invite
Meanwhile, Trump's ambitious “Board of Peace" is facing growing resistance from key international players. French President Emmanuel Macron has declined to participate, signaling Paris's reluctance to back the initiative. In Canada, the government has struck a cautious tone: although Prime Minister Mark Carney indicated he would accept the US invitation to join the board, a Canadian government source told AFP that Ottawa will not contribute financially to secure membership.
Further, an Israeli official also confirmed that Trump has invited Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take part in the US-led body, which is intended to oversee Gaza's reconstruction, underscoring the mixed and tentative international response to the proposal.
The US is expected to release an official list of members in the coming days. A charter draft published by the Times of Israel suggests the board could function as a broad international body aimed at promoting stability, governance and peace in conflict zones, with some officials speculating it could become a US-led alternative to the United Nations.

Several leaders have voiced reservations. Ireland's Foreign Minister warned the proposal could undermine the UN's role, while Poland's Prime Minister said joining would require domestic approval. European governments are reportedly divided over whether to participate, wary of straining relations with Washington.
The proposed executive committee would include Tony Blair, Mark Carney, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Under the draft charter, Trump would retain veto power over all decisions, granting him sweeping authority over the board's actions.
