A two-decade-old video has turned into Tamil Nadu’s latest political storm. As actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) upends the state’s landscape, social media is buzzing with an old clip of actress Trisha Krishnan joking about her dream to become Chief Minister. Now, fans and cynics alike are asking — was it really a joke, or a prophecy waiting to unfold?
The resurfacing of the 2004 interview, coupled with Trisha’s visible friendship with newly minted politician Vijay, has reignited one of Tamil Nadu’s favourite debates: the intersection of cinema and politics.
Just as MG Ramachandran (MGR) and Jayalalithaa transitioned from the silver screen to Fort St. George, many are wondering if Trisha could be the next in that lineage of actor-leaders.

The Jayalalithaa-Trisha comparison stems from both optics and timing. Jayalalithaa, like Trisha, began as a beloved actress in Tamil cinema, often paired with the reigning leading man MGR. Their on-screen chemistry slowly transformed into an enduring political partnership that shaped Tamil Nadu’s destiny for decades.
Similarly, Trisha has shared the screen (and rumour columns) with actor Vijay multiple times — in hit films like Ghilli, Thirupaachi, Kuruvi, Aathi, and most recently Leo.
Now that Vijay has founded his political outfit TVK and made a powerful electoral debut, speculation has naturally drifted toward his long-time co-star’s potential political role.
Fueling the chatter, a 2004 Sun TV interview — now viral across X and Instagram — shows a young Trisha saying, laughingly but confidently: “I want to become the CM of Tamil Nadu. Wait and see; I’ll achieve it in the next ten years."
When pressed on her plans if she became CM, she quipped, “First you vote and elect me, then I’ll tell you!"
That lighthearted remark has now been reinterpreted as a potential hint of ambition — especially as Vijay’s party surges in the 2026 Assembly elections.
The timing was impeccable. Just as TVK crossed the halfway mark in early May 2026, Trisha visited Vijay’s Chennai residence on her 43rd birthday, drawing media frenzy. Shots of her smiling and waving outside his home circulated hours after the old “CM dream" video resurfaced.

Even astrologers weighed in. @AstroSharmistha said her predictions about Tamil Nadu elections missed “Vijay’s rise," to which @siv_ramkrish replied: “Madam, please study the chart of actress Trisha also—it seems she will play a part in the future."
Until now, Trisha has not publicly announced any political plans or affiliations. However, multiple reports have noted that she has spoken about public service and social causes, saying politics could be an “effective way to work for people."
Trisha has occasionally voiced opinions on gender equality and women’s safety, but she has steered clear of direct political commentary.
Her recent statement rebuking BJP leader Nainar Nagenthran for linking her name with Vijay during TVK’s campaign was seen by some as her asserting independence rather than hinting at political ambitions.
So far, her engagement with politics appears coincidental, not intentional — a byproduct of Vijay’s political surge and media fascination with actor-politician pairings.
Scenario 1: If she joins Vijay’s TVK
If Trisha were to officially join TVK, she would instantly become one of its most recognisable faces. As a senior celebrity with deep public affection and a clean personal image, she could serve as a bridge between entertainment and politics, especially attracting women and youth voters. Within five to ten years, if TVK stabilises as a major player, Trisha could emerge as a star campaigner or symbolic successor to Vijay—mirroring how Jayalalithaa rose after MGR’s passing.
Scenario 2: Independent political entry
Trisha could also chart an independent course, forming a women-centric or social reform movement. But without a party infrastructure, financial backing, or seasoned advisors, the odds are slim. Tamil Nadu’s electorate values charismatic leaders, but they must be backed by a powerful organisational machine—something actors from smaller parties like Seeman (Naam Tamilar Katchi) have struggled to achieve.
Scenario 3: Symbolic CM or coalition figure
In fragmented electoral outcomes, a known cultural figure like Trisha could become a symbolic compromise candidate — a media-friendly face who unites factions. The probability is low now, but not impossible if alliances shift drastically by the 2031 election cycle.
Because Tamil Nadu’s cinema-politics connection runs deep. MGR leveraged his screen hero image to embody the “protector of the poor." Jayalalithaa, his protégé, mastered the charisma-intellect blend and became a formidable leader who ruled for over 14 years.
Trisha, too, has long carried an image of grace, strength, and relatability — qualities that transcend fan clubs.
If Vijay’s leadership sparks a populist wave similar to MGR’s, a “second-in-command" figure like Trisha could evoke Jayalalithaa-style projections, especially among young voters who consume both entertainment and political content through social media.
Yet, the crucial difference is intent. Jayalalithaa deliberately stepped into politics and fought a tough battle to legitimacy. Trisha, by contrast, remains an apolitical celebrity — so far.
Formal party membership: If she joins TVK or another major alliance within the next two years.
Public political engagement: Delivering speeches, attending rallies, or representing causes with political impact.
Strategic narrative building: If followers and digital networks continue amplifying her past statements, she may ride a perception wave that nudges her toward politics—much like Vijay did.
Power vacuum or leadership transition: If Vijay focuses on national politics, Trisha could symbolically inherit his image.
Without these, however, this remains more a social media fantasy than a political forecast.
In Tamil politics, cinema-bred myths linger. MGR-Jaya, Rajini-Kamal, Vijay-Trisha — each pairing thrives on the Tamil audience’s fascination with loyalty, charisma, and destiny. This particular buzz may last until the next election cycle or fade if Trisha herself addresses it directly.
But as media algorithms amplify every new clip or selfie with Vijay, the narrative might keep reanimating itself — especially if TVK emerges as a stable third force.
Realistically, not in the near term. She lacks a political base, organisational experience, and clear intent. Yet, Tamil Nadu’s history of actor-politicians reminds us that cinema charisma often turns into political power once a strong emotional connect is forged.
If TVK endures — and if the Vijay–Trisha public narrative continues evolving — Trisha could, by the 2030s, become a serious political name. For now, the idea lives in memes, videos, and X threads. But in a state where imagination often precedes reality, no one’s ruling it out entirely.
