Trinamool Congress, Chief Election Commissioner clash during meeting over voter roll deletions
A Trinamool Congress delegation met with the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya claimed the CEC shouted at her. ECI sources stated Bhattacharya raised her voice first. The delegation raised concerns about voter list deletions and adjudication cases. The CEC reportedly told them the matter is sub-judice in the Supreme Court.
Kolkata: Heated exchange ensued between delegation and CEC, Minister claimed on Monday, saying Gyanesh Kumar pointed fingers and shouted at her during the Trinamool delegations’ meeting with the full bench led by the CEC.
ECI sources, however, claimed that Bhattacharya started shouting at CEC, to which CEC told her to mellow down her voice and submit the details in writing.
ECI sources said 60 lakh adjudication cases were raised by Trinamool Congress and CEC Kumar refused to discuss the issue as it is sub-judice in the .
"Then, Trinamool minister Chandrima Bhattacharya started shouting at him, to which CEC asked her to tone down her voice and submit her points in writing," ECI sources told ET.
Trinamool Congress delegation on Monday raised the issue of 60 lakh adjudication cases with the ’s full Bench, on Monday led by Chief election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The 63 lakh deletion cases were also discussed.
He also told the TMC delegation,-"You have moved the SC, when they sought a response.
The CEC full bench today held meetings with major political parties from the morning, including Trinamool Congress, BJP, CPI-M and Congress. ECI sources said largely political parties demanded minimal no of phases.
Trinamool Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya claimed that the "they (CEC) don’t have respect for women and so you have shouted at me." She claimed that the CEC has lost his cool and shouted at her.
"Everything is in Supreme Court, the CEC told me and asked me not to shout," she claimed, adding, "The CEC spoke alone as usual and then lost his patience. The CEC told us that we have gone to Supreme Court. We were also told that everywhere he went, he heard people saying that their names were not in the electoral list," Bhattacharya said.
Bhattacharya claimed that they (CEC) do not respect women and that is why names of women voters have been deleted in large numbers and male: female ratio has changed.
"We have demanded that names of the genuine voters should not be out of the voter list," Bhattacharya told mediapersons, after the meeting. Trinamool Congress has raised the issue of and adjudication of 60 lakhs, which are being adjudicated by the judicial officers.
“We have raised the anomalies. There were 32 unmapped voters initially. These things must be explained. Altogether 60 lakh, then, went to Adjudication. We have raised concern about male-female ratio,” Bhattacharya said.
“In other states, we were told by CEC, everything has been completed. You have gone to Supreme Court, CEC told us. Now things are in the Supreme Court,” Chandrima Bhattacharya said.
Bhattacharya asserted that she has done the right thing to move the Supreme Court as common people’s interests have been hampered.
