Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: The Japanese automaker Toyota is set to launch the Urban Cruiser EV in India on January 20, marking its first-ever electric vehicle for the Indian market.
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: The Japanese automaker Toyota is set to launch the Urban Cruiser EV in India on January 20, marking its first-ever electric vehicle for the Indian market. The electric SUV is based on the Maruti e Vitara and will enter the fast-growing midsize electric SUV segment in India.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is expected to be priced between Rs 19 lakh-25 lakh (ex-showroom), similar to the Maruti e Vitara. It will compete with rivals such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, VinFast VF6, and the Maruti e Vitara.

The Urban Cruiser EV shares its overall design with the Maruti e Vitara but features distinct changes to set it apart. At the front, it gets a redesigned bumper, sleek LED headlights and LED DRLs housed in black trim. The lighting design is inspired by Toyota's premium Camry.
The SUV has a strong and muscular stance, highlighted by thick cladding along the lower doors and rear bumper. At the rear, it features wraparound LED taillights with a different light signature. Like its Maruti sibling, the Urban Cruiser EV is expected to come with aero-optimised 18-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the Urban Cruiser EV closely follows the e Vitara. It gets an asymmetrical dashboard, a dual-screen layout, soft-touch materials and leatherette upholstery. Physical buttons for climate control and media functions are retained, along with a floating centre console and multiple storage spaces.

Boot space details are yet to be confirmed, although the UK-spec version offers up to 310 litres. A full-size spare wheel and dedicated storage for charging cables are also expected.
The Urban Cruiser EV is likely to be offered with two battery options: 49kWh and 61kWh, paired with a front-mounted electric motor. Power output could range between 144hp and 174hp. The SUV is expected to deliver an ARAI-claimed range around 540km on a single charge.
Expected features include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, a fixed glass roof, ambient lighting, connected car technology and multiple drive modes.
On the safety front, the Urban Cruiser EV could offer seven airbags, Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, parking sensors, ESC, traction control, TPMS and ABS with EBD.
