Toy Cow Replaces ‘Gau Mata’ At Desi Family’s Griha Pravesh Ritual: ‘Nandi Is Remote Working Today’

Toy Cow Replaces ‘Gau Mata’ At Desi Family’s Griha Pravesh Ritual: ‘Nandi Is Remote Working Today’
Moving into a new house is often marked with a griha pravesh (housewarming) ceremony in India. It is believed that through this ritual, the new house purifies and negative energies are removed. In many regions, it is traditional to bring a cow in the house during the ceremony as the animal is seen as a symbol of purity.
But for families living in apartments, having a real cow inside the house is something not possible. So, they usually donate in cow shelters. But in one unusual ceremony, a family found a creative solution: they used a toy cow for their griha pravesh ceremony. Yes, read that right.
A Toy Cow At Griha Pravesh Ceremony
According to Manorama News, the family made this choice because moving a real cow to an upstairs apartment was too difficult. During the ritual, the priest chanted shlokas, worshipped the plastic cow and even garlanded it.
The viral video showed the cow doll, controlled with a remote, moving inside the house. At one point, it stopped on a mat and the priest picked it up and placed it forward so that it could continue to move. A child nearby was seen trying to hold the toy in his hands.

What People Said Online
The video caught the attention of many viewers and opinions varied widely. Some found the toy cow adorable.
One user simply wrote, “'Even The Cow Said, ‘I'm Remote Working Today" while another commented, “Modern problem, modern solution."
Someone else remarked, “The cow is so cute here. I mean, look at it moving with small steps."
“Jugaad, our lifeline," read a playful remark.
But other viewers were critical of the idea as they felt that using a toy reduced the ritual's significance, with one viewer writing, “If you can twist your rituals then that ritual is meaningless. Just pray instead."
“It is stupidity, not a sweet gesture," a user said.
Several people defended the family's choice and pointed out that the intention behind the ritual matters more than the object used.
An individual shared, “It's the heart that matters. For people trying to start a new life in a flat, it's not very convenient to bring a real cow in. Also, many societies do not allow bringing pets in. Hence, if there is a good intention and there lies faith (not blind), such harmless acts are absolutely cute and satisfying."
“The ritual's power lies in intention, not the object. If the heart is pure and the faith sincere, even a symbol can carry divine meaning," and “It shows their intentions towards their rituals are pure. That only matters!" were some other comments.
Significance Of Cow In Griha Pravesh
The cow holds a special place in griha pravesh ceremonies. It symbolises divine blessings, prosperity and positive energy.
