Top 10 Costliest Liquor Vends In Chandigarh Under New Excise Policy
Chandigarh’s excise policy for 2026-27 has generated record-breaking revenue, with the e-tendering process for liquor shops witnessing intense bidding and strong participation. A total of 83 licensing units (liquor shops) were allocated for Rs 496.81 crore, marking an increase of nearly 29% over the reserved price of Rs 385.24 crore.
The new excise policy will remain in force from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027, setting the tone for a financially robust year for the administration.
Among all the units, the most expensive liquor shop was allotted in Palsora village, fetching a staggering Rs 16.71 crore. This was followed by the Dhanas location at Rs 12.27 crore and the Sector-61 market at Rs 11.52 crore.
Other high-performing locations included Mauli village (near Chandigarh Nurseries) at Rs 10.27 crore and Khudda Lahora/Khudda Jassu along Madhya Marg at Rs 10.25 crore, reflecting strong demand across both urban and peripheral areas.
The e-tendering process, conducted at Hotel Mountview in Sector-10, witnessed significant interest from bidders. A total of 195 bids were received for 84 licensing units.
Out of these, 83 units were successfully allotted. One unit (LU-77) received only a single bid, but the bidder was found technically ineligible, leaving that unit unallocated.
Additionally, the administration collected Rs 3.90 crore as participation fees during the process.
Officials confirmed that the tender process for the remaining 14 liquor shops has already commenced, with their allocation expected to be completed shortly. Authorities are optimistic that these units will also fetch prices higher than their reserved values, further boosting overall revenue.
Additional Excise and Taxation Officer Pradyumn Singh stated that the administration has already secured around Rs 496 crore from the auction so far. The bidding for the remaining shops is scheduled to take place on March 25.

The administration has made it clear that strict action will be taken against defaulters. If any liquor contractor fails to make the required payment for a shop, their other allotted shops will also be sealed, ensuring compliance and financial discipline in the system.
Reacting to the auction, Chandigarh Wine Contract Association President Darshan Singh Clair said he had secured 10 liquor shops this time and expressed satisfaction with the overall process.
However, he also raised a concern regarding compliance norms. The administration had mandated that bidders disclose their family details during participation, but reportedly no bidder adhered to this requirement. Despite this lapse, he described the auction as smooth and successful.
The previous excise policy had attracted criticism and controversy, as a majority of liquor shops were reportedly acquired by a single firm. This year’s wider participation and competitive bidding appear to have addressed some of those concerns, resulting in a more balanced and transparent allocation process.
