Famous stand-up comedian Zakir Khan shocked his fans recently by announcing a prolonged break, potentially lasting until 2029-30. Speaking to the audience during a recent live show in Hyderabad as part of his ‘Papa Yaar' tour, Zakir announced a temporary but elongated pause on his comedy shows.
The announcement triggered a shockwave, but the comedian cited health concerns and personal responsibilities as a major reason behind his decision.
A video from the Hyderabad show has been surfacing online, where Zakir is seen candidly confirming the hiatus for the next three to five years. Not one to hit a pause on his on-stage career lightly, the 38-year-old indicated he was carrying certain health concerns and personal issues he had been delaying attention to due to his professional commitments.
Zakir Khan Opens Up About His Prolonged Break
“I've been touring for many years now… It's time for me to look after my health. I've tried to balance work and health, but I need time out to manage things. But I love to perform; I want to do it when I'm 80, which means I need to do this now," Zakir told the Gulf News in an interview as he opened up about his break.

First going viral on stage as an AIB comedian back in 2015-16, Zakir has been through an inspiring journey of great hardships but also remarkable success as a globally recognised comedian. His rooted Indian humour and playful way of talking have been entertaining audiences around the world.
“When you are the first in your family to do something, you have to build a lot of bridges so that the people who will come after don't have to suffer the same things you did. And that's what I've done for 10 years. As a result, in every city you have to have a little family, those who will come to your events, show you around, tell you about the place… make you feel ‘at home'," Zakir said.
“Relationships take work, time and effort. And so where will that time come from? For me, it's from my sleeping schedule. But if you keep your foot on an escalator for 10 years, your body is bound to suffer," he added.
When he publicly announced his break during the show in Hyderabad, Zakir expressed gratitude towards his fans and audiences, thanking them for years of continuous support. Zakir stressed it is only a temporary halt on his shows as he wishes to entertain people for a long, long time.
