Bangkok is a mix of modernity and tradition. The city's bustling canals, vibrant street life and futuristic skyscrapers lend it a busy and chaotic air. But beneath the churn of city life, the Thai capital also has shrines that give visitors a sense of calm. One of them is the Wat Pariwat Temple. This shrine is a Buddhist temple like no other and is even called the ‘David Beckham Temple'. The reason? The Wat Pariwat Temple has carvings of pop culture figures like Captain America, Mickey Mouse and Wolverine. And yes, a statue of Beckham is also there below the main altar.
An Instagram video highlighted the unique features of this shrine. The clip was shared on December 25. In the video, Gaurav and his travel companion are seen playing a spot the pop culture figure game of sorts. They manage to find Wolverine, Mickey Mouse, Superman, Aquaman, Pikachu and more. Finding the unique statues here is no less than a treasure hunt.

When Was The Temple Built?
The temple complex was built sometime between the late Ayutthaya period and the early years of the Rattanakosin era, as per Atlas Obscura. The shrine fell into disrepair later. Restoration efforts started in 2008. One of the main buildings is still under construction and is expected to be completed in 2028.

The Wat Pariwat Temple also features historical figures among its array of statues and carvings. Tourists can spot Albert Einstein with brown hair and revolutionary figure Che Guevara among the figures. Not just that, some of the ornate statues were carved with a twist.
There is a rabbit with a selfie-stick, a Mickey Mouse with breasts and demons with mobile phones in the complex. Visitors can spend hours trying to locate all the unique decorations.
