Telegram, the popular messaging platform with over 1 billion users worldwide, has released its latest update. This update includes several major changes focused on user security and convenience. These include new features such as “Passkeys” for instant login, secure gift purchases, and the ability to add audio to Stories. Let's explore what these features will change.
1. Passkey Feature Makes User Login Easier and More Secure
Telegram has now introduced “Passkey” support on the app. This means users will no longer have to wait for SMS verification codes to log in. You can now log in instantly using your phone's PIN, Face ID, or fingerprint. This feature will be especially useful when you are traveling or when your phone has no network coverage, and you are not receiving SMS messages. Each passkey is secured with a unique encrypted key. You can also sync it with iCloud Keychain and Google Password Manager.
How to set up Passkeys in the Telegram app?
To do this, you need to go to the app's settings. There you will see the Privacy and Security option, which includes the Passkey option. From here, you can set a PIN, Face ID, or fingerprint passkey for the app. However, Telegram advises that you keep your phone number linked to your account even with Passkeys enabled.
2. Purchase Digital Gifts Through Gift Purchase Offers
Telegram's Gift Purchase Offer means you can send Telegram Premium subscriptions or collectible gifts to other users. These can be purchased and upgraded using Telegram Stars. These are special animated gifts that can be displayed on profiles or sold in the marketplace. Telegram has introduced this new feature to make the buying and selling of digital gifts more secure.
Now, users can directly make offers for gifts displayed on another user's profile using ‘Stars' or ‘TON'. When you make an offer, your payment is reserved. If the other user rejects the offer or the time limit expires, the full amount will be refunded immediately. The user receiving the gift will be able to see how close the offer price is to the estimated value of the gift. This system protects both buyers and sellers from fraud.
3. Users can now add audio to their Stories
Sharing stories on Telegram has become even more fun. With this update, users can now add music to their stories directly from their profile playlist by selecting the ‘Audio' option through the sticker menu. This will help users make their stories more engaging without leaving the app. With this update, Telegram has taken a significant step towards increasing trust in digital transactions and strengthening account security.
