Tech Mahindra Delays Onboarding Over 1000 Graduates Due To IT Challenges: Report
Tech Mahindra delayed onboarding 1000+ 2025 engineering grads due to industry headwinds. Graduates await offers despite clearing tests. FITE plans to raise the issue.
Tech Mahindra has reportedly delayed the onboarding of more than 1000 engineering graduates from the 2025 batch across colleges, as the IT industry is bracing for headwind situations. The pressure to improve operational margins and utilization has put the fresher hiring on the back foot in FY26.
Several graduates from the batch between January and February 2025 while speaking to Moneycontrol, said that while they have been selected after clearing several rounds of aptitude tests and two rounds of technical and HR interviews, they are still awaiting their offer letters.
“I had gone through two rounds of tests in January 2025. Then we were called for two interview rounds at Tech Mahindra’s office in Pune in February. Final selection list came in March 2025. It’s nearly a year since we were informed of our job selection during the final year of college. We didn’t even get our formal offer letters yet,” a fresher who studied at a college in Pune told Moneycontrol.
According to MC report, some selected graduates at Tech Mahindra have started applying for jobs outside after Diwali, when their onboarding has been delayed longer than usual. One of them said that finding a job in the IT sector is tougher than ever before at the current business environment and AI-led disruptions.
The MC report added that Pune-based Forum for Information Technology Employees (FITE) is set to raise the matter and take the issue to the labour ministry to resolve at the earliest.
During the company’s third quarter earnings conference in January, Mohit Joshi, CEO and MD, Tech Mahindra had said that the company will hire lesser number of freshers in FY26 as compared to previous fiscal year when it onboarded around 6,000 freshers.
Tech Mahindra is on a business turnaround journey until FY27, and remains more conservative in hiring as it looks to improve margins and utilisation rates internally.
The IT sector has been bracing for one of the toughest periods, in fact an existential challenge, in the past few months over the introduction of new AI tools by AI firms. IT companies saw a sharp correction in prices as investors sold off the shares at a large numbers in panic and business viability concerns. Some fear that AI tools would eventually replace Software-as-a-services companies.
