Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) CEO and MD K Krithivasan on Friday informed that the IT major has initiated a formal independent investigation into the sexual harassment incident at its Nashik facility, bringing in external experts and constituting a board-level oversight mechanism to ensure the process remains transparent and credible.
A dedicated Oversight Committee, chaired by independent director Keki Mistry, has been formed to receive the investigation’s findings and act on any resulting recommendations.
The company also onboarded Deloitte and law firm Trilegal as independent counsel to support the internal inquiry, which is being led by Aarthi Subramanian, President and COO of TCS. The findings of internal investigation will be presented to the Oversight Committee.
In a statement issued to address what the company described as inaccuracies circulating in media coverage, Krithivasan informed that Nida Khan, whose name has appeared repeatedly in press reports with the designation of HR manager, held no such title or authority within the organisation.
She worked as a process associate without any leadership responsibilities and was not involved in recruitment functions.
Khan’s name came up in one of the nine FIRs lodged for allegedly assisting the complainant to learn to observe Roza, wearing a hijab.
Updates on Nashik branch operations
TCS also pushed back against reports suggesting its Nashik unit had ceased operations, firmly denying that any shutdown had taken place. The facility remains active and continues to serve its clients without interruption, Krithivasan said.
On the broader question of misconduct allegations, TCS stated that a preliminary review of records and internal systems linked to the Nashik unit found no complaints filed through either its ethics channel or its POSH — Prevention of Sexual Harassment — reporting mechanism. The company noted that more detailed reviews are still ongoing.
TCS reiterated its stated position of zero tolerance toward coercion or misconduct of any kind, emphasising its commitment to employee safety, dignity, and welfare across all its offices. The company added that it is cooperating fully with law enforcement to ensure the matter is investigated thoroughly and resolved appropriately.
What happened so far
The case first came into light when in March, when a woman working at TCS’ Nashik BPO unit filed a complaint alleging that a colleague had maintained a physical relationship with her by promising marriage.
During the investigation, police registered eight more FIRs related to mental and sexual harassment faced between 2022 and 2026, along with inaction by the senior managers. There were also allegations of attempting religious conversion by a few complainants.
The action was taken based on intelligence inputs received by the Nashik Police Commissioner’s office.
As of now, accused Raza Memon, Shafi Shaikh, Asif Ansari, Shah Rukh Qureshi, Tausif Attar, and Danish Sheikh are in police custody. Another accused Ashwini Chainani is in judicial custody for her alleged inaction when the employees raised sexual harassment complaints against the other accused.
The case is currently under investigation by a special investigation team (SIT) led by assistant commissioner of police (Crime) Sandeep Mitke.
