Taylor Fritz Reveals Tennis' Reality: Big Three Have Their Way And 'That’s Just How It Is'
Taylor Fritz didn’t tiptoe around the reality in tennis — the fact that it really does pay off to be the best among the best.
Speaking during a recent Twitch livestream while playing World of Warcraft, the American peeled back the curtain on how match scheduling works at the top level of men’s tennis.
The short version? The biggest names call the shots.

According to Fritz, if Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner want a specific time slot — especially a prime-time night match — they usually get it.
Fans often notice that top-ranked players tend to feature on weekends or under the lights. Part of that is simple business: bigger names draw bigger crowds and better TV numbers. But, as Fritz suggested, it’s also about keeping stars happy and ensuring they return year after year.
Answering a fan’s question on stream, Fritz explained how the hierarchy works.
“Carlos, Jannik and Novak, if they are playing, they’re going to get the time slots they want," Fritz said. “But you’re also separated in the draw. So at the same time, Carlos and Jannik are going to be split. On one day, Carlos is going to get his pick. On the next day, Yannick is going to get his pick. And then whoever the next highest seeds are will probably get a say."
So where does Fritz fit in?
“So I would probably say I’m like third priority," he added. “I won’t get to pick the time I play on center court. But if I want to pick the time I play on, like, Court 2, I might be able to say, ‘Hey, don’t put me first, but also don’t put me in the night match.’ And I’d say that’s about it.
“But at any point, if I play one of those top guys, then it’s like, yeah, forget that. Whatever I want to do is completely out of the question. We do what they want to do. Like, if I play Novak and he wants to play me at night, they’re going to put my a** at night against him. That’s kind of just how it is."
Fritz now heads to the 2026 BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, widely regarded as the biggest Masters 1000 event outside the Grand Slams.
He will also team up with Elena Rybakina to defend their Eisenhower Cup Tie-Break Tens title.
