Tamil Nadu elections: Piyush Goyal, EPS reopen NDA talks

Chennai: BJP's election in-charge for Tamil Nadu, Piyush Goyal, on Tuesday held talks with AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami.
Seat-sharing arrangements between the two parties were also expected as part of the discussions as the parties ready themselves for a possible pre-poll understanding ahead of the elections next year.
"I'm delighted to be in Chennai and meet my dear friend and brother EPS, who has led the BJP-AIADMK alliance," Goyal said. "We had good meetings and discussion about strengthening our work and fighting the 2026 assembly elections as an NDA family under the leadership and guidance of PM Modi."
Goyal said Tamil Nadu will get a government focused on development, women, youth, farmers, fishermen, MSME, traders. He said the commitment of the NDA is the commitment of Modi and Palaniswami.
"It is important for the people of Tamil Nadu to get a good government which is development focused, a government which provides for a better future for the women, youth, farmers, fishermen, MSME, small industries, industrialists, traders of Tamil Nadu," he said. Goyal emphasised that the BJP is confident that the NDA will have a sweeping victory in the 2026 elections. "We have discussed various plans to meet the people of Tamil Nadu, meet the aspirations of the youth, meet the demands of growth, jobs which Tamil Nadu has suffered under the corrupt regime of DMK," he said.
Palaniswami on his part reiterated that the parties would work together for the polls on 2026.
"NDA parties will remove DMK from power. AIADMK-BJP alliance will emerge victorious," Palaniswami said.
Earlier in the day, a crucial meeting of the BJP TN Core Committee was held at the party's state headquarters in Chennai. The meeting was chaired by Goyal, along with BJP co-incharge and Union minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and BJP Tamil Nadu State President Nainar Nagenthran.
The core committee deliberations focused on chalking out election strategy, reviewing organisational preparedness and planning outreach programmes across the state.
