Syed Modi International: Tanvi Sharma Moves Into Semifinals With Win Over Lo Sin Yan Happy

Promising Indian shuttler Tanvi Sharma moved into the semifinal of the Syed Modi International with her win over Lo Sin Yan Happy in the quarters of the event in Lucknow on Friday.

The teenage sensation Sharma registered a 21-13, 21-19 triumph over Hong Kong's Yan Happy to move into the final-four of the women's singles at the Super 300 event.

Earlier in the event, Sharma got the better of former World Champion Nozomi Okuhara in the pre-quarters as she rallied from a game down to register a 13-21, 21-16, 21-19 in 59 minutes to move into the quarters of the event in UP.

The Junior World Championships silver medallist, Sharma, will look to continue her winning momentum and move into the semifinal of the Super 300 event on home soil in the semifinal encounter.

Unnati Hooda also sealed progress at the home event with her 21-15, 13-21, 21-16 victory over compatriot Rakshitha Ramaraju, while Isharani Baruah was shown the exit door by Nesliha Arin of Turkey 19-21, 21-13, 15-21.

Hooda put it past Tasnim Mir21-15, 21-10 in the women's singles Rakshitha Ramraj got the better of Devika Sihag 16-21, 21-19, 21-17 in their respective pre-quarter fixtures.

Tresa Jolly and Hariharan Amsakarunakaran coasted to a straight sets win over A Ramadiyasyah and N Shimizu of Australia in the mixed doubled quarterfinal encounter, while HV Nitin and Srinidhi Narayanan were ousted by the Indonesian duo of A Pranata and M Faza.

Amsakarunakaran and MR Arjun are slated to on A Tai and KX Kang of Malaysia in the quarterfinal of the men's doubles event, while Jolly and daughter of the legendary Pullela Gopichand, Gayatri, are slated to take on N Inci and B Ercetin of Turkey in the women's quarters fixture.
