Supreme Court refuses to entertain plea against Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, daughter on CMRL-Exalogic transactions
The Supreme Court on Monday (October 6, 2025) refused to entertain a plea by Mathew Kuzhalnadan, MLA, against Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on the alleged financial transactions between Exalogic Solutions Limited, the now-defunct company of his daughter T. Veena, and Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL).
“This court is not a platform for fighting political battles,” Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai addressed senior advocate Guru Krishnakumar, who appeared for Mr. Kuzhalnadan.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal represented Mr. Vijayan and some of the other respondents.
The Kerala High Court had in March had mentioned that the plea by Mr. Kuzhalnadan was politically motivated.
Mr. Krishnakumar submitted the High Court erred in dismissing his client's petition merely on the ground that cognisance cannot be taken merely on the basis of suspicions.
“We have consistently said that we do not want the court to be used for political matters,” Chief Justice Gavai reiterated.
Mr. Kuzhalnadan had earlier challenged in the High Court an order of a Special Court of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau dismissing his plea for a probe into the financial dealings.
In his petition before the special court, Mr. Kuzhalnadan had sought a probe into the payment of ₹1.72 crore to Exalogic by the CMRL, although it had not provided any services to CMRL. He had also contended that the CMRL made the payment to facilitate procurement of mineral sand from the Thottappally spillway, mined by the Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd.
